The Complicated Mess of FrSky ACCESS and FrSky R9
In the end, I refuse to let frsky force me to update all my hardware.

now I have two R9 Slim + OTA receivers that I can't use with my Jumper T16 ... I'll wait for some genius to tell us how to downgrade this things and make them compatible with the FLEX firmware that several of us use here  Whistling

You install the old firmware on them and they will work just fine.

Just use the R9 slim firmware from my website Smile

Hi bffigjam,

Thanks for that excellent list of firmwares.  Thumbs Up Cool

I have both XM+ and R9MM receivers that are ACCST {pre-ACCESS}.   Wink   All of the FrSky gear is ACCST and will stay that way. I figure that I can use these things for a long time. In fact, I generally don't update anything unless it becomes absolutely necessary. I would, however, buy older, ACCST, gear especially if the price is right.

At this point, I DO NOT plan to buy any of the newer, ACCESS, products from FrSky and will NOT buy an FrSky transmitter.

I had intended to move to TBS Crossfire, but I got a deal on R9 gear that I just couldn't pass up; $50 for an R9 module and two R9MM receivers. Then, I have found and bought several additional R9MM receivers for $20 each.

Also, I am watching the Immersion Ghost product. I think it is a little early for me to consider, but I am watching and waiting. I want to see some comparisons between Ghost and Crossfire. I have also read that Betaflight doesn't yet fully support Ghost.
Yeah, I don't want to buy a version 1.0 product; lets see how it goes and when they release an update.

Glad the list is helpful.

As for buying ACCESS gear, I have a pretty high throughput of gear and have had to buy about 8 ACCESS receivers so far, but I just flash them with ACCST firmware and go about my day, no big deal Smile

It is impossible to bind  (connect transmitter and receiver) with the old FLEX firmware and new  OTA receivers

Other people have reportedly managed to use the newer R9 OTA receivers on the older ACCST firmware without issues so I'm not entirely sure why you are having issues. Have you tried more than one R9 OTA receiver incase one of them was faulty?

I have no problem binding my original R9 with re-flashed ACCESS OTA R9Mini's, I have probably 6 of them in service now. You do not get the OTA features of course, but they work the same as a ACCESS R9 Mini.

Edit: Snow I wonder if someone tried to do this with V2.0.x ACCESS firmware it may not work? Some sort of wall added by Frsky?
I mean rx's made to work together have trouble on v2 lol.

Ok, so now I am confused. There is conflicting info in this thread and all over the internet on this. Can I flash a new R9MM OTA currently with ACCESS on it, to the old ACCST flex/fport firmware and have it work just like my original R9MM receivers on fport firmware (just without the new ota feature)? I don’t really want to change radios or receivers again. I just want to build another quad and also have a spare rx just in case.

Yes, you can flash R9MM ACCST firmware to a new R9MM-OTA receiver and it will work with your old R9M ACCT (pre-2019) module.
