Runcam Split
#46
As i think 3.1.7 has dterm transition at 1.0 by default, you could try to lower this value a bit... possible that it would make it smoother especially around midstick.

Also on some other cams sometimes the lens or the circuit board comes loose or vibrates, did you check that too?

Just a quick question, does anyone have any experience in powering the split from the Betaflight F3 5v?
The BF F3 should have a 3A max 5v BEC ... but I hear people having issues with it.
And the split does pull (considerably) more power than a VTX + CCD cam does.
Check out my videos @ www.youtube.com/Marcelfint and let me know what you think!

Hi Oscar/fftunes

after further testing (I even tried BF 3.2 with dynamic filters on and checking that the sensor board was not lose inside the camera housing...

though the lens was tightly screwed on, the lens was actually at fault. I replaced the lens with another lens (2.5mm foxxer lens) and the jello went away completely.
unfortunately its not an IR block lens so the colours are terrible. but the jello is gone completely.

I'm pretty sure that the lens has a loose glass inside it or something, no matter how tight I secure the stock lens it has still got the jello wobble.
After seeing a few other peoples RC Split videos, I wonder if other people have a defective lens too?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I am also having a slight jello issue with my new split... I have tried just about everything I can think of to fix, but never thought to check the lens. I'll try swapping it out with a spare I have at home and see if this helps.

Did you guys get the Split with the standard lens, or the GoPro lens option? (I was thinking about ordering one of these with the GoPro lens.)

when I pre-ordered mine the GoPro lens option wasn't available.

I'd definitely chose the GoPro option if I was going to order again

I ordered it with the GoPro lens... going to swap out for a 2.3mm swift2 lens I have spare and test. Have to wait for favorable weather though.

Yes, definitely go for the GoPro lens option! IMO it has better colour, and less distortion at the edges while giving you the same FOV.
Regarding powering the Split, I would recommend using a separate 5V BEC for it, regardless whether your FC can handle it or not.

How have you gone about downloading the video/picture files off of the SD card through USB? This has me stumped.

I just leave the SD card in the camera (it's taped to avoid card missing)
And I download the video files using USB cable. Before connecting to the camera I always make sure the quad isn't powered on. so far works perfectly.

Thanks Oscar, thats what I was afraid of. I guess I get to send this one back. Everything else works fine! BTW, I put mine in a Vortex 285. Fits inside perfectly. Drilled 2 small holes on the left for the buttons       and a hole for the USB on the right.     I'm trying to get the controls working through UART 2 which is labeled GPS on the mainboard. If I can ever get it to flash CleanFlight I think it will work fine.

Rolleyes I know I butchered it a bit, I'm fixing it

I see that BetaFlight 3.2 has a runcam split peripheral in the ports tab, just like the TBS Unify and the Tramp. Cool! I'm so close to ordering a Split, just irks me that it's 5V instead of HV.

 hey Pat,

I know that this is a FC question at this point but how are you trying to flash it? Are you trying to do it through cleanflight or immersion tools? If it's the former, then it might makes sense to try using immersion tools just to see if it helps. I had some issues flashing mine a while back and was able to make it work after I realized that I needed to use their proprietary software. You may have already thought of that though. Good luck either way!

Did you ever get an answer back on this?  I'm having problems and trying to isolate the issue.
