ExpressLRS is not magic - some downsides

AFAIK, there are zero 915Mhz diversity receiver on market.

I guess not much of a market for manufacturers to focus on developing a 915MHz diversity receiver.

You can flash the R9 Slim+ to ELRS for 900MHz diversity.

Way ahead of you.. I have 2x R9M Slim+ already flashed.
But... not quite the right size for a 3" toothpick.

Maybe someday we can flash the TBS Crossfire Nano.

Or even the Crossfire Nano Diversity! That is what is installed on my 7", though Crossfire works so well that I doubt I would flash that RX even if ELRS would go on it.

900MHz diversity is way overkill for a 3" toothpick. The EP2 with the tiny ceramic antenna would be more than sufficient. And even if you bought a new 2.4GHz ELRS TX to go with it, it would still cost less than a Crossfire nano diversity Smile

Its not about range. I dont care if 3km or 300km.
If you are flying bando and you scrape/break the 1 only antenna = quad is lost.

Which is my point...you can never have too much. Two is one, one is none.

You guys will never guess what just happened.

I took Sparky.. for a walk.. over the lake. Sparky went far. I did a perimeter and hovered way high above cottages 1.1km away.

The 915Mhz was on 100mw and 250Hz. BUT
I am using the BetaFPV small antenna. I talked many times about this..

combined with poor placement and angles..you get DRAMATICALLY less range.

So after chasing boats on the lake, Sparky went for a swim.

Poor sparky. Any chance of recovering the body?
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

That really sucks, hope you can recover it :-(

Their 2.4ghz antenna is actually quite good, from the reviews I've seen... guess their 900mhz antenna (hardware, etc... stuff) is typical BetaFPV.  That being said, what were you doing flying BetaFPV hardware over a body of water   Huh   That takes guts!

Did you notice a gradual degradation in LQ as you went out, or did it suddenly drop and die?   Kinda concerning if it suddenly went from (close to) 100% to failsafe...

Hi Roman,

Sorry for you loss.  Sad

Now you need a Rescue Boat. Something to DRAG the lake.

I would say Submarine, but I doubt the RC link would work through the water.

Sorry for your loss.

Golden rule of thumb. Never fly over water without a GPS module installed and Betaflight GPS Rescue / INAV Return-To-Home configured and tested. Granted it's not easy to do that on a micro quad (assuming that's what it was) but unless you are happy taking the risk it is safer to just fly larger quads over water which have the ability to run GPS.

So, have used ELRS for a while now, with Namimno Module in a FrSky X12S on OpenTX.

The reason I experimented was that several of us were getting unexplained random RXLOSS and just plain old "stopped working and into fail safe" on FrSky R-XSRs, at 50-250 metres max. The site has a major gas main across it underground we have always been a bit suspicious of as the issues always seem to align with that!

I have converted 2x5", 1x4", and 2x3" running various ELRS Rx. Also have converted one Whoop. Oh, and one fixed wing!!

I have done the absolute minimum to get them working. They all do. No loss of link.

I do not like the lack of clarity for newcomers, info being minimal to insufficient. The Configurator requires a total rework IMO, but then so does OpenTX!. Like books have proof readers, these sorts of high user interaction software need to be tested against people NOT familiar with the concepts and processes!

So far though, I'm glad I bit the bullet, its worked out very well.
