That's where smartaudio can be of great help.
I have low power on disarm mode. As soon as I disarm it goes to 25mW mode. It's nice to keep it cool while you're putting goggles on, or waiting for GPS signal.
I'm not sure if arming for turtle mode counts as "arm", it should, but I have to check. It can be useful if you disarm at 1km out and it goes to 25mW 

About the noise:
Just put some flights on my martian with the racerstar escs and the rush tank ultimate @500mW and it's clear, very clear, and the signal is strong.

I've never tried that. It makes a lot of sense. I know about pit mode but didn't know you could set a low power mode. I'm going to check that out. Thanks for the info.

If you have the latest betaflight versions with vtx tables you'll have that option on the VTX tab. You'll also have the option to low power until first arm and what that does is, it just remain on low power until you arm it, but if for some reason you disarm midflight it will stay on your normal power mode. I guess that option was done because of the reason I mentioned, but I didn't try arm it with turtle mode on this mode I'm using to check if it remains on 25mW or goes to normal power mode.

I'm using this mode on my 3.5.7 BF F3 board. The commands I used on CLI:

set vtx_band = 5 (default band)
set vtx_channel = 1 (default channel)
set vtx_power = 3 (3=500mW)
set vtx_low_power_disarm = ON

The only drawback to low power on disarm is that if you crash and need to find your quad, your vtx will be transmitting at too low a power to get video especially if it's upside down.

Yes. But if turtle arm count as regular arm it should go to normal power mode and that would be nice because you could arm without spinning motors. I'll try it on my next flight.
