03-Aug-2020, 05:28 PM Also regarding the vibrations coming through the camera. It has to be the frame/motors or something, simply because when I throttle punch and do a powerflip (yeah not long range but..) the memory card comes loose from the runcam hybrid. So there's obviously a lot of vibes coming through to be able to do that. Gonna play with some tuning stuff this evening but I know most of the time you want to try sort vibrations out before the tune. But then my 5 inch did also looking back at the video so not sure if going to be something to do with the wind and i-term. Will have to see. I'm not sure your method of prop balancing is going to work. With a balancer you have rollers that the shaft sits on that eliminate any resistance. You want the prop locked on the shaft also so you dont have any slop. Look at this thread by Khrosis. I have the same balancer and you would be surprised what it will show you. The balancer is very inexpensive also. https://intofpv.com/t-tuning-your-quad 03-Aug-2020, 09:51 PM (03-Aug-2020, 09:34 PM)wllmlutz Wrote: I'm not sure your method of prop balancing is going to work. How inexpensive are we talking? I'm going to try soft mounting my motors first to see if that helps too. 04-Aug-2020, 01:00 AM (03-Aug-2020, 05:28 PM)rjenningsuk Wrote: Also regarding the vibrations coming through the camera. Spin up motors with no props while on the bench and lightly rest the shank of the driver against the motor shaft. With as bad a vibration as you are describing, you would know easily if one (or more) is bent. I have gotten pretty crazy with Seven and never have had a card jostle free from the clip holder thing. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Addicted :) 04-Aug-2020, 03:30 AM (03-Aug-2020, 09:51 PM)rjenningsuk Wrote: Ah so that's why it's on a long shaft thing locked up. Here's a link for one that looks identical for £16.99. https://www.amazon.co.uk/YYWJ-Propeller-...988&sr=8-4 I think motor mounts are a good idea also. I try to put soft mounts on all of my quads. 04-Aug-2020, 02:53 PM (04-Aug-2020, 01:00 AM)kaitylynn Wrote: You can check for a warped motor shaft with a small diameter screw driver. They take forever to come though postage wise but yeah they're not super expensive so I'll have a look about. I've just soft mounted all the motors on foam tape so I reckon that'll help a bit too. 05-Aug-2020, 12:04 PM So I bought a prop balancer and there's no difference to my make shift drill bit vasline spirit levelled drum pads to be honest. Imagine it'll probably be more effective on bigger 10inch props but the 7s seem to be balanced well enough by the factory. I also checked the motor shafts and they aren't bent either. Haven't flown since I soft mounted the motors though so going to give that a try when the weather starts behaving. Maybe it's just the frame since it's so lightweight/skinny. My atempt at using the prop balancer video here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6uvru5UuhKwRPxQs5 10-Aug-2020, 03:50 PM (This post was last modified: 10-Aug-2020, 03:50 PM by rjenningsuk.) So I managed 1KM really easily and also tested the failsafe by turning the transmitter off at the end which also worked fine. Plus I had GPS rescue mode on a switch too that also works. Pretty chuffed so far but still need to get it nicely tuned. 10-Aug-2020, 05:01 PM XL7 is a really nice frame and I love flying mine. I also have wobbles in the HD view. I could get ride of wobble in my other 7" quads by using thrust linear. I have to see if it works on XL. However, it is still fun to fly. My main issue with XLwas props in the HD view. I designed my session 5 mount that has no props in the superview view. If you want, you can get it from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4144931 I got gopro 8 and was thinking how I can design a mount for it so there will be no props in the superview. 10-Aug-2020, 10:38 PM (10-Aug-2020, 05:01 PM)dukevah Wrote: XL7 is a really nice frame and I love flying mine. I'm using runcam hyrbid so can't use a mount to get them out of view. I think I'll probably end up getting a deadcat from to try avoid the props for that awesome cinematic footage but we'll see. 11-Aug-2020, 12:19 AM sure. I got adeadcat style too, but man XL looks more locked in 11-Aug-2020, 01:38 AM (This post was last modified: 11-Aug-2020, 01:39 AM by iFly4rotors.) I think I'll probably end up getting a deadcat from to try avoid the props for that awesome cinematic footage but we'll see. Take a look at the camera mount on my Phantom-3A build. On this build, my reason for mounting the camera in this manner was that I needed to remove the front columns so that the front props didn't hit them. The build uses a stock GEPRC Phantom frame designed for 2.5 inch props, but I am running 3 inch props on it. The only thing that the props would hit was the front columns, so I eliminated them and moved them up top to provide a camera mount. Yeah, I know the camera is not as "protected", however, it allowed me to run the 3 inch props and does keep the props out of view; the battery sticks up higher so protects the camera from an "on the back" drop. Sure, it is still somewhat unprotected... So... I could have made a protective plate that would install on top of the columns or side plates that attach with the camera ...OR... just don't crash The reality is that I do crash, but have not yet damaged the camera. For a RunCam Hybrid, I would probably add some type of protective shield; likely plates that attach using the camera mount bolts. Just a thought. Had to have been a butt puckering moment there. Had me flinch a little. I noticed a little vibrations but not much. You went through all the screws and tightened them I take it? Sometimes the vibrations of the quad can loosen screws even on the arms and I could see that causing vibrations. In any case it looks like some minor tuning will clean it right up. Nice flight man! Congrats on 1km! Next time send it even further. I suggest going out in half kilometre increments though. I went out one mile with my first mid/long rang build and got over confident. Next rang flight I went straight for 2 miles, forgot to record my DVR, it fell from the sky and I lost my quad, gopro session5, and confidence. It has made me a very cautious pilot. I double check everything before I send it now. 11-Aug-2020, 09:53 AM (11-Aug-2020, 01:38 AM)iFly4rotors Wrote: Take a look at the camera mount on my Phantom-3A build.
