Hi everyone,              Last post    :     My Journal    :   Thread Index  :  Download:  Parts Guide  >  Post #52

I bought my first micro quadcopter (Eachine E013) complete with camera, controller, and goggles about a year ago. Prior to that, I had no RC experience and I am not a "gamer" so no experience with transmitter/remote controller. I immediately found these small (65mm) "tiny whoop" quads to be extremely fun; quite an experience. Since I crashed a lot, I very quickly learned how to repair and modify these quads. I now have more than a dozen ranging from 65mm to 85mm "whoop" quads, and 3 open prop, "toothpick", quads. All of my quads have brushed motors; most use the Bayang protocol. I also use a Jumper T16 to fly these. I love flying these machines especially FPV and building them. Now I build my quads, buy most of the parts and make things like canopies, protector plates, and mounting plates.  Most of my flying is indoors so the 65mm "tiny whoops" are just perfect. Outdoors, I fly mostly the toothpicks, 100mm to 135mm, as they handle wind better. I have joined this forum to learn and share.

{2020-08-19 Update}

Having been a member for more than a year, I have decided to chronicle my experiences through a journal. Since none of the other sections seem to be appropriate, I decided to just use this {my intro thread} as My Journal. The first page is just responses to my into;  My Journal actually begins on Page 2 where I began collecting my builds, videos, ideas, thoughts, and experiences. This is the collective, a place to provide access to all things iFly4rotors; a central location to access my threads, even things that aren't threads, and ideas or thoughts that don't really fit a section.
This thread is  The House of iFly4rotors    High Five

Hi there and welcome!
Did it ever crossed your mind to fly a 5"?

Thanks.
Sure, I have watched videos, research a variety quad sizes and styles, and have studied the physics and design of these crafts. Since most of my flying is indoors, the smaller craft work well for me. In fact, the "tiny whoops" are perfect for flying around the house.  When I do fly outside, it is mostly in a relatively small space (our yard). For now, this works for me. On the other hand, I continually check out the brushless motor quads including the racers, 3" and 5". I am moving in that direction, just not quite there yet. When I move into the brushless, open prop format, I will likely build my own rather than buy an RTF.

Welcome to IntoFPV! My favorite aircraft is my 3" Japalura that I built. About 80% of my flying is with it and the rest I fly just so they do not collect too much dust...okay, I fly them as they are fun, but the 3" is my fave! The neat part is that over the last few years the "micro" market exploded and now there are as many choices in the 130mm to 150mm frames as there are for 210mm to 230mm (at least it seems so).

Also, with the "modern" whoops, you have larger frames and 2S (even a few instances of 3S) so you could stay flying whoops indefinitely.

OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :)

Hi Kaitylynn, Thanks. Indoors, the whoops are really the only option. Flying FPV inside is a blast...going from room to room and around obstacles is quite fun  for me. Most of my flying is indoors. The larger 75mm and 85mm whoops are pretty good outside, but the "toothpicks" (open prop) are a blast in my smaller outdoor space. Although I have 100mm, 120mm, and 135mm (all with 60mm, 2.36 inch, props), my favorite is the 100mm. It is just SWEET to fly.

Also, my quads all cost less than $ 50 (without camera); my cameras are $15-$30. Even my "toothpicks" are in this price range.

Sweet! The closest I have to a "toothpick" build is The Bug, which started life as a 110mm 2" micro that eventually morphed into a 125mm 2.5" rocket. I think i paid a little more than $80, but it has still been my more economical brushless flyer. It originally had an XM+ RX that gave me a range of 500 meters. Eventually that was replaced with an R-XSR and now I have telemetry at the cost of some comfort margin at that range.

Welcome !!
Sorry I am late to chime in. I too am a brushed fan and have several. My favorite thing about them is the beating they take Smile
I have a 3" and a 5" but the little guys get most of my stick time with the Mobula7 being my current favorite ( outdoors )

Sounds good. At some point, I will get into the brushless quads. Your 125mm 2.5" sounds just right...and right price, too.
