Motor thread
#1
Hi

I noticed some of my screws being quite lose and apparently the threading inside my motors is getting destroyed from crashing. Didn't think that would be the first thing prevent me from staying in the air. Any suggestions to either make it less likely to get destroyed or maybe a way to still connect my motors securely after some of the threading is partly gone?

If you are not already using blue thread lock when you screw your motors to your arms, you should be!

That way, they won't get loose with the vibrations. For those motors where you have already damaged the threads, the thread lock will help, but there's only so much you can do and very few motors have enough excess material to enable cutting new, slightly larger threads and matching those with oversized screws.

Yeah, I won't try to cut new one's. I'll try to find some thread lock.

BLUE thread lock only!

If you use the red stuff, you'll never get the screws out again. If there are other screws that hold your frame together that don't use nylock nuts or some other method to prevent the screws vibrating loose, you should also use blue thread lock on those as well.

Did you use 4 screws per motor, or only 2?

In the beginning i thought 2 were enough lol... until a motor fell off. Luckily it was right at start, not mid-flight. Definitely my shortest flight ever. Big Grin

When I had my motor fiasco (testing after the rebuild) I happened to get into the air with only a single screw on one of the motors! I noticed the ticking/vibrating sound and landed within a few seconds but it actually took off even with the motor barely mounted lol...

blue always from now on... even during testing :p
