What motor to choose on 3.5" cinewhoop?
#1
Hey guys, I plan on building a 3.5" Cinewhoop with this frame: Lumenier QAV-PRO Mini Whoop 3.5" Frame Kit (getfpv.com)

Since this is my second drone I don't know what motor to choose. Therefore I created a list of common 3.5 ich cinewhoops and the company's recommended motors.
I watched Chris Rosser's Video about Cinewhoop Motors where he states that it is best to stay below a width to Height ratio of 5:1.
Since the drone should carry a full-size Hero 12 the ratio should be around that for better cooling.
GetFPV also recommends a motor for the frame but that one seems a bit too pricy. It is the first one on the list. The stator volume of the motors and weight of the naked Frame are all included in the list.
The 2203.5 size also seems to be used quite often but the ratio of 6.3 is quite high.

It would be awesome if someone could give me advice on which motor to choose.

You didn't mention about what you are looking for.

It depends on your requirement. If you want to carry something heavy like a GoPro for most of your flying, then you definitely want a wider motor for better cooling. But if you want a powerful quad for freestyle and aggressive flying, then a taller motor might be a better choice. Clearly you can't have both since it will make the motor too heavy for a 3.5" quad, so you will have to find a balance between the width and height while achieve the desired stator volume.

Hey Oscar,
thank you very much for your reply. Iam looking for a drone to take smooth and cinematic shots without doing flips and other freestyle moves. The drone should carry a full size hero 12 so a wider motor should be best. The problem is that i have no idea on what stator volume is right. 2004 and 2203.5 have around 1300mm while some of the other have close to 2000mm. Since the frame is a bit heavier than usual a larger stator volume should be right?

Absolutely. Your approach of researching what motors other cinewhoops are using is the right thing to do. 2203/2204 sizes would be my recommendations if you aren't doing aggressive flying.

Thanks alot. I found the Axisflying c224 which is a 2300kv 2204.5 Motor. This seems to be about right. 1710mm3 stator volume and 4.8 ratio.
