Kakute F7 AIO - Troubleshooting
#1
Hi -

I am working on a new build that uses the Kakute F7 AIO and Tekko32 esc's. I was having some soldering issues and got some good advice from this forum and while not great, my skills are slowly improving.

My current issue is that while I can connect to the FC using Betaflight, I can't access the esc using BLHeliSuite32. All was working a few days ago, but something happened when I reworked the solder connections. Images of the setup are below.

I am wondering if I have shorted something on the FC - the image below shows that I have very little resistance between the positive battery pad and the 0m25 component.

The board doesn't short when I connect it to the battery pack but the esc begins to get warm. I assume that this shouldn't be the case but I am not sure if this is an FC problem or ans esc problem.

Any tips on how to troubleshoot problems like this!

Thanks!

The resistance measurement you get between the two points you indicate is fine. That component is a shunt resistor which has very low resistance and is there to measure current. It is how Betaflight knows how much current has been drawn from the LiPo and how much of its capacity has been used.

As for your other issue, are you able to spin the motor on that ESC from Betaflight configurator?

It might be worth us having a look at your current Betaflight settings, so can you please run both the "dump" and "diff all" commands in the Betaflight Configurator CLI tab and then copy/paste the results back here.

Hi -

Thanks for the response. As it turns out the problem is with one of the esc's. I have two of the esc's wired up to the FC and motors and they work fine. This other esc (Tekko32 35Amp) starts getting hot the moment the battery is connected. Its not a dead short but current is flowing. I am going to order a new one but I was wondering if you might have an idea of what might have gone wrong.

Likely one of the components is damaged - MCU, gate driver or FET. Without pulling components off the board to find out what is causing it then there is no real way to tell. What caused the damage in the first place is anyone's guess, Probably a short circuit or reverse polarity killed something on the board.
