Walksnail cannot connect
#1
Hi guys,

I was going to post a message with my Walksnail Avatar system issue but finally solved it by myself. So I will just post my solution, in case someone else will have the same.

The symptoms: I have Walksnail + iFlight ProTek bundle and it worked perfectly (until today) so I just went out today to test it and suddenly the goggles couldn't find the transmitter. Nothing helped, I went home and tried to bind it again - didn't work. Tried to reset the goggles and bind it again - didn't work. Recently I bought another Avatar VTX so I tried to bind it to the goggles too - but again it didn't work. I made sure that I use the latest firmware. I even opened the goggles trying to find if there are some signs of something broken - but it was all ok. I wrote to Walksnail support and was ready to send the goggles to repair.

The solution: I remembered that last time I played with the goggles I updated their firmware to the latest version, sort of final step before a real flight. I told myself - maybe I need to update the VTX firmware as well? There was no mention that their versions should match, but at least I can try. So I updated VTX version and suddenly it started to work. So the problem was that I had to update BOTH goggles and transmitter to the same version number. Who knew?... So be aware.

It doesn't seem obvious to me that I have to update firmware on both the devices, otherwise they will not see each other: already bound devices will go dark, bind will not work too.

I THINK hd-zero is the same way…
Boy THAT is something to look forward to !!! Updating all ur VTXs every time a new firmware for ur goggles comes out.

Hopefully we get to a point where the firmware is good enough to not need to play this game often. HDzero is the same and I would imagine DJI is too, but I don't run that system to know. The main problem I see going forward is when you buy a new vtx a year from now you are going to be forced to update to that firmware on all your other equipment.

I think this is more of what to expect as the hobby evolves with digital products. I'm already noticing how digital has affected your average build's parts list. Instead of vtx tables you'll be doing firmware matching. Instead of caps for filtering out esc noise in a video feed, caps are used to prevent voltage spikes in digital systems - the noise on the Vcc rail doesn't seem to be discussed as much. BECs on digital rigs are usually rated at a higher power ie: 9V/1.5A (13.5W) versus 5V/1.5A (7.5W). Digital FCs don't have the OSD chip(AT7456E), etc... Stuffs just different.
