Can I get the min # of satellites, put down radio, and walk quad out past 100 yards,I changed to 50 in betaflight. Can I flip return home switch or fail safe switch or does quad have to be flown out and to a certain altitude first? Oscar says it can be tested in betaflight, props off, and it should spin motors if it’s working in motors tab but I can’t get any satellites in betaflight. When it’s in return to home mode is there any OSD symbols that can appear in goggles? • Posts: 6,107 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,283 in 1,830 posts Likes Given: 4,733 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 20-May-2021, 07:01 PM (This post was last modified: 20-May-2021, 07:06 PM by hugnosed_bat.) if you have betaflight mode enabled in the osd, it displays "rescu" where air or acro would be written. you cant do any rescue without a satelite fix - at least 5 satelites and 8(?) by default settup. i always set rescue mode on a switch, decrease the min distance - seems you allrwady did that - and than i go for a flight. 3d fix and fly, check the home arrow in the osd, pass min distance, fly slow and close to the ground (a few meters) - trigger the switch. check if it flys into your direction and trigger the switch again to get controll back. in case it doesnt work, the quad would drop out of the sky, soft playground therefor. if everything works, i set it as failsafe procedure. i dont know why to try without rotors doesnt make sense to me. the 3d fix is where the arm switch is triggered, so it would need to be carried with spinnig motors without pros ? +50m? probably i missunderstand • Posts: 1,843 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 (20-May-2021, 07:01 PM)hugnosed_bat Wrote: if you have betaflight mode enabled in the osd, it displays "rescu" where air or acro would be written. you cant do any rescue without a satelite fix - at least 5 satelites and 8(?) by default settup. i always set rescue mode on a switch, decrease the min distance - seems you allrwady did that - and than i go for a flight. +50m? probably i missunderstand I will try what you suggested. I may not have walked far enough and it was getting dark the day I tried. Does failsafe return home get activated when video signal is lost or just radio? • Posts: 6,107 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,283 in 1,830 posts Likes Given: 4,733 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 20-May-2021, 08:42 PM (This post was last modified: 20-May-2021, 08:43 PM by hugnosed_bat.) its just about radio signal, as your quad sends the videosignal, it doesnt have any information if you receive video or not. it can just recognize no rc signal. therefor you will need rescue on the switch in case of a video loss. • Posts: 1,843 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 Makes sense. I’ll try next day I’m flying. • Posts: 760 Threads: 66 Likes Received: 352 in 254 posts Likes Given: 490 Joined: May 2019 Reputation: 12 Yep that's pretty much what I did. I just went out a few hundred meters and flicked the switch. The quad levelled out spun around and started returning. It was so satisfying I followed Oscars guide https://oscarliang.com/setup-gps-rescue-...etaflight/ • Posts: 4,550 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,245 in 1,064 posts Likes Given: 430 Joined: Aug 2020 Reputation: 118 GPS Rescue scare me every time I test it • Posts: 1,381 Threads: 119 Likes Received: 1,419 in 735 posts Likes Given: 1,094 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 41 I’ll try this too. That’s a good test process hugs. I made the mistake of mapping the rescue mode switch over the top of beeper mode and it doesn’t work well - a painful and costly test that was! • Posts: 760 Threads: 66 Likes Received: 352 in 254 posts Likes Given: 490 Joined: May 2019 Reputation: 12 It is scary but once it is all setup you will gain so much more confidence in your quad. I have had 2 fail safes plus a complete video loss and the quad came back fine. It was so satisfying seeing the quad return. • Posts: 21,228 Threads: 584 Likes Received: 8,957 in 6,628 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 One thing to be careful of with GPS Rescue configured for a failsafe is not to enable that if you are flying freestyle in and around trees and buildings because if you get an RXLOSS you risk your quad flying up into a tree / object if you happen to be under one when GPS Rescue kicks in. GPS Rescue is best used for flying out in the open or just cruising out to longer distances. • Posts: 1,843 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 I have my return home on same aux channel as beeper so I may have to change that. • Posts: 1,381 Threads: 119 Likes Received: 1,419 in 735 posts Likes Given: 1,094 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 41 Yea Rob, change that mate as I had the same switch overlay as you and it just drops out of the sky. • Posts: 1,843 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 23-May-2021, 09:00 PM (This post was last modified: 23-May-2021, 09:07 PM by Rob3ddd.) I tested return home today and it works. I had to get some altitude before my distance changed from 0 even though I walked the quad over the set minimum. The gps wouldn’t register any distance after walking away from radio and goggles 60 yards but once it hovered at around 10 feet distance shot to 80 meters and switch activated return to home and turned it off too. I did have the return home on the same switch as beeper and it didn’t seem to matter. • Posts: 6,107 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,283 in 1,830 posts Likes Given: 4,733 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 switch position is very important xD i teiggered the arm switch on my last gps rescue test accidently xD https://www.dropbox.com/s/lod78tdudttbwz...4.mp4?dl=0 • Posts: 4,550 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,245 in 1,064 posts Likes Given: 430 Joined: Aug 2020 Reputation: 118 (23-May-2021, 09:32 PM)hugnosed_bat Wrote: switch position is very important xD i teiggered the arm switch on my last gps rescue test accidently xD https://www.dropbox.com/s/lod78tdudttbwz...4.mp4?dl=0 Been there and done that. I accidentally dis-armed (instead of GPS rescue) one of my quads after loosing video. The arm/disarm and GPS Rescue were on different switches but because I was flying my whoop all winter, I had developed muscle memory to dis-arm the quad instead of the rescue/failsafe switch. • |
