Is there any way to test the original full size Crossfire Module, without a receiver? Not the Lite or Micro.

I have a TS16S, and I believe this module needs an external power supply, correct?

I imagine these either work, or they don't, right? How can I tell?

The full module do not need external power. If you plug into the JR bay, you can active the external module through your radio settings. The module has an LED screen that should power up. Change at least you will know it is not DOA. But to really test full function, you will need a receiver.
