A 1.4kg pack? Nice flight and like that you spotted the flock of birds at 25:45, thought you were going to dive down and follow them. The altitude reading can't be right though, imagine you need to be a lot higher than 12m to get that range. How was the ELRS/O3 LQ? Yes , 6s5p , about 1530 grams. The altitude was right (from home position) . I use iNAV and it was in AltHold mode . The idea was to see how far can it go with the minimum losses . At the end I saw 39.2Km trip distance and theoretically I could have done 19Km from home. Next time Edit...... Lowest LQ I noticed was 80 in 0.5W power 09-Jan-2024, 08:31 PM Diver: What size of quad did you first use for LR flights? I'm thinking about dipping my toe into LR, but can't decide between 4" and 7". Any input? Bigger quads will have better efficiency and range, but the price also tends to get bigger as well. I've seen awfully long flights on little baby quads, but they're much more subject to the wind. I almost lost my quad on the first attempt due to doing silly things like messing up my accelerometer with smashed gummies, flying too low and blocking signal with trees, and flying during the crane migration. Start cheap for sure! 09-Jan-2024, 10:46 PM Suros: Is the Darwin FPV 7" LR quad a good "cheap" option to start with? https://darwinfpv.com/products/darwin129...4171931823 10-Jan-2024, 12:21 AM (09-Jan-2024, 10:46 PM)Viking Wrote: Suros: Is the Darwin FPV 7" LR quad a good "cheap" option to start with? Honestly, I'm not very well acquainted with their parts outside of the fact that they make some great micros on a budget. It's also worth noting that a 7" quad will absolutely be a lot to handle as a first. I started on 4" and was in a tree twice in the first 10 minutes. Not hard to get hurt with big quad. I'd seriously recommend you start small and cheap, then when you're comfortable go bigger. 10-Jan-2024, 01:24 AM Really impressive. We're you wearing fpv goggles or flying on a monitor? I don't think I have the attention/stamina for a near 30 minute flight. 10-Jan-2024, 10:42 PM (09-Jan-2024, 08:31 PM)Viking Wrote: Diver: What size of quad did you first use for LR flights? I think that 7'' will have you covered for a longer time. 10-Jan-2024, 10:48 PM 10-Jan-2024, 10:53 PM An update ....... This can be talked about for quite a long time, and from two points of view. One is the technical one and the other is about dos and don'ts. And in this video you can see mainly what is not allowed. I have similar videos, but I don't publish them as a matter of principle, why show someone the evidence for which in the EU it is possible to get a very high fine at best. Technically, you are very high and therefore there is no problem with the Fresnel zone, and it is possible to have excellent link quality at such a long distance, if you did not start from such a high height, you have no chance to fly that far with such a quality link. You've used the battery to an almost dangerous limit, landing at the 2.8 V per cell takes some balls. Personally, I always keep a reserve, this was completely on the edge. I have flown in Greece several times, and you have stricter rules there than elsewhere in the EU, every flight must have a permit and with the exact marking of the flight area and flight time. Each flight must be pre-approved. I myself do not admire the rules in the EU, they are created by people who know nothing about it, they do not know what is and what is not dangerous in the world of FPV, that is for a really long debate. And what's really dangerous here is that you're in Class G Airspace above 400 ft (120 m) for almost the entire flight, which is long, and a collision with a manned aircraft is no longer a negligible probability, you can never see clearly what's coming to you approaching from the posterior hemisphere. You need to fly with your mind and not do dangerous things. Because if you followed the rules created by the officials from the green table, you wouldn't even get off the ground. Just to give an idea to those who have no idea how it is in Greece, what must be filled out and approved for each flight. The flight must be approved by the HCAA, approval in my experience takes 1-2 days if everything is in order in the submitted application and in accordance with the rules. From January 1, 2024 it is simplified and shorter, but the time and coordinates (including the map with exact GPS coordinates of the area boundaries) of the flight session have remained there. http://www.ypa.gr/en/HCAA_UAS_FLT_request_editable.pdf 11-Jan-2024, 05:39 PM Hi, I suppose you’re talking about the 20Km flight. You are right in almost everything you said. Everything beyond visual LOS (I thing) is not ok according to the rules. About the battery, I had about 6% capacity left. I know it was low but I had planned 3 emergency landing spots, in case something gone wrong with the calculations. Near the end of the flight, we (me and two “co-pilots”) evaluated the data and we decide that it is safe to finish the flight as planned. During the flight they were watching telemetry data, flight path through an app and (if that matters) air traffic visually and through a second app. About the height, I disagree. Most of the time I was below 120 m from the ground. And yes, it was not a wise choice to post it. |
