R-XSR no RSSI on OSD
#1
Hello guys,

I cant figure whats wrong. I flashed my R-XSR to latest firmware and use I am using  BF 3.5.5.  Buit I cant get any RSSI reading on the OSD screen.( shows Zero)
On the QX-7, it see the RX and has telemenarty.  I went on the BFC Reciever tab, I even select AUX 12 and still nothing.   On my other quads with the XM+ on AUX12 has no issue.
Anyhelp I greatly appreciated.

Likely you have your RSSI settings from your XM+ still there. The RXSR does things a little differently. I had to DISABLE the channel setting from RSSI on the RECEIVER tab. Also, make sure that RSSI_ADC is not enabled on the CONFIG tab.

No this built always had the RXSR on it.  I think I have disabled the Reciver tab, but I can double check it again.
RSSI_ADC for sure is not enable..

Ok, so it was working before the flash then stopped? Have you tried disabling TELEMETRY and then enabling it again?

How are you wiring the R-XSR SBUS/S. Port or F. Port?

I wired to the SBUS.   I mean everything works, I can fly the damn things. Only thing bugs me is no RSSI Sad
btw this is XILO F405 stacks.  What else I need to check?

So with S. Port for telemetry setup, you have to send the RSSI back to the FC through a channel.

Had similiar issue yesterday. I even did everything that Oscar wrote in article. Solution that helped me was setting RSSI on channel 8 (and every below). When I had it on channel 9 in the beginning, everything seems to work fine (I could see RSSI changing signal on AUX5) but OSD was still on 0. After changing to channel 8 on my taranis (and setting RSSI to AUX4 in bf) everything works great in OSD also

You right, I didnt think of that.. All my other quads are based on XM+ reciever..  I will try it tonight when I get home.

Hi,

ok this how exactly mine looks like..  Basically on the RXSR pin #3 needs to solder into the FC S-PORT.

Yes, assuming that you have SBUS/S.Port firmware on the R-XSR and not F.Port firmware then you are correct. This will get you other telemetry data back to your transmitter. The XILO F4 FC has built-in inverters for both SBUS and SmartPort/F.Port so you don't have to worry about messing around with inversion hacks, which makes a nice change Smile

This won't fix your RSSI in the OSD issue though because RSSI gets sent back to the transmitter even when you don't use SmartPort telemetry. If you're still not getting that RSSI in your OSD then it likely means you haven't configured an mixer or output channel on your transmitter to send RSSI data back to the receiver/FC from the transmitter. That is what Oscar's tutorial (as linked to by Voodoo) shows you how to set up so you will need to follow that tutorial if you haven't already done so.

Home run!  It works the RSSI shows up on the OSD. Just follow the Oscar's steps.
I didnt solder the S.PORT yet, I dont really need it yet..Unless I want do the Lua scripts.    THanks for the help guys, I really appreciated.

You get RSSI back to the radio even without SPort? Huh. Never realised that!

RSSI and RxBat telemetery data is generated by the receiver itself so that can simply be passed straight to the transmitter over the radio link without the requirement of a SmartPort link to the FC.

However, any additional telemetery data you might want that gets generated by the FC itself first has to be sent to the receiver via a SmartPort link. The receiver then relays that additional FC telemetry data onto the transmitter. So for that additional telemetry data you do need a working SmartPort link.

A working SmartPort link is also required if you want the ability to change Betaflight settings via BF LUA scripts running on your transmitter.

I only use it for RSSI anyway! I didn't realise that SBUS itself was bidirectional.

Wow - I give even less of a poop about FPort now.
