Long flight time freestyle basher suggestions??
#1
I’d like to build a long flight time freestyle quad in a 3,3.5 or 4” build.
Which size is more likely to give me longer flight times?
I’ve read 4” has the best efficiency but I’ve also read 3 or 3.5 is better for long flight time in a freestyle quad .
I was thinking about 4” Gecko or impulse apex 4” but apex is a bit heavy.
Any suggestions on what size for longer flight times?

4" is the longest blade, it can provide the best efficiency.

gecko and the apex (bit sure about the weight) are both on the heavy side. a very lightweight frame would be a tomoquads kamikaze 4inch.
no question, there is just one frame you should buy! the best;

for the motorchoice about flighttime and freesytle ability, i would suggest lightweight options: the brotherhobby vy1504,5 or the vy2004. they both can provide performance and efficiency.

Is the ronin mk1 available anywhere?
I’ll take a look at tomoquads.

Here’s some footage of a new t-motor prototype.

this would be a good value for money ultralight 5inch.

i fy and like ultralights. they are very nimble, very very nimble :-) its difficult to fly ultralights very smooth, smooth freestyle is possible. if you go for one, give it a try on different batteries to get the performance you like.

the quad looks nice, i will watch the full vid later...

I am not sure if The.Ronin's marketing website is quite up yet, but should be soon.
I believe his frames are worth waiting for.

In looking for frames, it depends on what FC mounting you are looking for; 16x16 stack, 20x20 stack, 26x26 whoop AIO.

I have used Tomoquads frames with great success. It looks to me like the Kamikaze only takes a stack.

I like the Katana 2 frame since it accepts the 26x26 whoop AIO mounting.
I have built a couple of quads with this frame.

The AirBlades Transformer Mini LR 4 is a lightweight frame that takes both stacks and whoop formats.

If you are a DJI or Vista fan, the Diatone Roma 4 LR looks to be a pretty good frame as well.

Personally, I am waiting for The.Ronin's frames.

I would like build a basher type were I don’t care if I tear it up.Not a heavy tank but good enough camera protection.
I’ll keep an eye on ronin frame.
Is it a 4 or 5”?
It looks like a 5” and 40 grams is impressive.

As far as I know, the.ronin's frames are currently all 4 inch.

Armattan makes good basher frames, but they are heavy and expensive.

I’d like to try one of ronin frames.
They look good and I do want to build a 4” soon.

If you can manage to hang on for a bit. I would wait for the.ronin's frames.

Personally, I am waiting for his merchant website to be fully established and I will buy two frames; 1 each of the the 2 he is working on. I just want everything to be in place, then I will place an order. I am not in a hurry, so I will wait for him to get everything established.

He is Worth the Wait. Hang in There.

What other frame is he working on?

I find it questionable he got 37min with 2203.5, and 30min with Lumenier 2005 (big difference!!)

Obviously that was with 4S VCT5 3000mah. Quite likely flying pretty slow.

From my experience with 5" with FPVcycle2204, and 2004 and 1607.. ultralights.

when you have such incredible thrust to weight, its difficult to hold still.

Hi Roman,

My Katana-LR5x 5 inch build had FPV Cycle 2203 3450kv T-Mount motors running HQ Prop T5x3 5 inch props. It flew smooth as butter with no problems flying slow or just barely moving. On the other hand, it was heavy at 198 grams dry and 265 grams with a GNB 3S 1100 mAh battery; Fly Times of 11 to 12 minutes. I lost it before I had a chance to fly it with 18650 pack.

I get about 5 minutes flying my quads flying aerobatics.
I use 2-3S 550 in my phantom,4S 1300 in my hyperlite freestyle LR 5”,and 5 minutes using 6S 1400 in my HD 5” but I punch throttle often.

I’d like to get 8-10 minutes of aerobatic flying but still durable enough to handle newbie crashes.

I don’t use GoPro cameras yet and my 5” and 6” weight 360-380 w/o battery.

I’m thinking of going to 4S 1800-2000 and see if I can get 8 minutes.
8 minutes of aerobatic type flying is enough for me.

GNB LiPo packs I’m going to check out.
They are almost 25% less of tatuu packs and everyone seems to like them.
