EMax Tinyhawk FREESTYLE III HDZero/ELRS
#1
No secret that I have loved my Freestyle I Analog. Bought Jan 20, flown oodles (tech term), mostly garden, but after making a 3D printed prop duct/ring unit, occasionally indoors/sports hall.

When EMax announced a version III with a HDZero option, it was pester the dealer time till they appeared............  Rolleyes

AND............ it arrived yesterday afternoon, and its excellent.    Big Grin

It has a RunCam version of the HDZ micro camera, SPI ELRS RX with ceramic antenna.

Have had two garden sessions now with it, the first bog std with the PH connected cells, flown both 1S and 2S.

Having proven it worked, I didn't like how they'd cramped the video antenna and the power connection, so then did the following mods:-

Clear away the cable ties holding the antenna wire and battery connection wiring.

Remove the 3D TPU antenna clamp

Reroute the video antenna up through the rearmost top plate hole behind so not obscuring the USB socket.

Remove the dual PH connector and replace with dual A30, reusing the capacitor.

Cable tie power wires to rear post owing maximum free length.

The 1 or 2 cells stand on edge either side of the antenna wire, keeping the RCHP part above them and held securely.

ALL flights (many!) today were 2S using two 660mAh GNB HV A30, giving between 5.5 and 6 mins duration depending on 3D aggression.

1202.5 7000kV motors.

Flying Buddy is buying the Freestyle I as he decided to stay Analog.

Handles my 80 foot long garden inc fully behind mature (and wet) Laurels really well.

NOTE:  It swamps its RX if the Radiomaster T16 is closer than half a metre, otherwise all radio and video reception is perfect.

65.8g light, each GNB 660 adding 15g.  Pretty good for a tough agile 2.5" prop quad.

WELL pleased so far....... Smile Smile

I should qualify the above with the rider that if you are not used to doing set up "blind", you'll possibly struggle!

As time passes I'm getting REALLY frustrated by quad and quad part manufacturers who push the product out to market before they have set up documentation.

How is this remotely acceptable behaviour? Huh

Such is the case with this quad.

They even put a card in the box with a QR code for the manual that just takes you to the support portal, where you waste time searching through the poorly arranged even more poorly identified files, to eventually find nothing.

So you contact support, and their reply is :-

"Sorry to keep you waiting. Since this is a new product, our engineers are still writing instructions. Please wait patiently. I will contact you after the instructions are available. I hope you can understand."

Angry

As an explanation of this erosion of what should be essential basics, the Freestyle "I" that I had included a multi fold quite comprehensive card manual!!

As an off topic aside, I have just done two near 400 mile motorway (UK) journies. Outgoing journey we visited a Main Motorway Services with all the "chain" food and travel goods outlets that a decade ago was fully 24/7 but now is toilets only until 06.30 (and disgustingly filthy ones at that, with less than half usable at all).

We arrived with 15 mins to unexpectedly wait, to then find their tills were down for card sales and they could not even take cash (The whole site). The breakfast bar had rapidly congealing prepared food they could not sell! They said the day previously they'd had a three hour power cut.

The return journey a week later another main Motorway Services run by a different operator was shutting down all its food outlets at 21.30. Peeling paint, scratched and broken table surfaces, broken missmatched "charity shop reject" furniture, large amount of failed lighting, missing floor and ceiling tiles.  I was looking for the hard hats sign!
