97 Hi Snow,
Thank You. I think that clarifies it for me...more or less...at least for now.
Hi Jasc,
First, let me say that I am Not a photographer, I do Not have a business,
I have no business interestes in photos or videos, I do Not and will Not
monetize any photos or footage that I take, I just fly purely and solely for
my own recreational pleasure. Now, my pleasure is in being the pilot and
actually flying, not being a passenger while the drone just flies itself or is
more or less on autopilot while the person at the transmitter just looks
around. If I want to look at the terrain, I will just use Google Maps.
Additionally, part of my recreational fun is the building and experimenting
with various FPV setups, frames, motors, props...and the ability to build a
quad outside of the norms and conventions. Most of my quads are custom
builds. Moreover, if it breaks, then I can fix it...maybe the same day.
Another part of my recreational please is NOT needing to register my drone,
NOT needing to install Remote ID, and NOT needing a Part 107 or any other
pilot's license in order to fly my little drones legally. The locations that I
fly are all small and the drone is always with in visual line of site and I
always have a spotter with me...yeah 99 percent of my drones are sub-250
gram, FAA category 1, drones.
Consequently, I wouldn't even consider those DJI, Autel, or any of those
other similar, more-or-less "self fly" drones. That is not what I want to do.
Plus, the cost of any single item is WAY beyond what I want to pay for
something that I don't "feel" like I am actually flying.
Now about the digital gear itself that folks put into FPV quads. Well, digital
is nice, but not necessary for my needs. Also, it is all propriety. Now, I guess
that is ok, but I generally don't care for priority products when there are more
open options. Yeah, I don't buy Apple products either {long story there}. Plus,
it just costs too much. However, if I ever do go digital it will likely be HDZero
where things a bit more open.
As for the transmitter, I would not consider a DJI radio transmitter even if I
did use their video gear. This is partly because I have always used multiple
procotols and like having just one transmitter that will run everything. That is
one reason that I never bought an FrSky transmitter in the first place. I waited
until the Jumper came out with a Multi-Protocol Module that I could use for my
toy {Bayang protocol} quads, plus, I could also control FrSky, FlySky, and
Spectrum receivers all with just one transmitter. NOW, we are talking. Also,
the JR bay allowed the use of other protocols such as R9, Crossfire, Ghost,
Tracer, what ever...anything else that might come out. ALL with one radio
transmitter. Fantastic !!! I just hate it when you have this transmitter for
this, that one for that, and other one for the other one. So, when Jumper
came out with a transmitter that included the Multi-Protocol Module, well I was
all down with that. Now we are talking.
For me, the perfect radio transmitter would be one that included all the possible
current protocols both old and new with an open JR bay for anything new that
might come out. I know, that is just too much to ask.
By the way just having a JR bay is not enough unless every single protocol is
available in a JR module form and actually works with any transmitter that has
a standard JR bay...NO restrictions or special electronics in the module or the
bay to restrict or to prevent any protocol from working.
So, I won't buy an FrSky transmitter, I won't buy anything that is FrSky ACCESS
protocol, I won't by a FlySky transmitter, I won't buy a Spectrum transmitter, and
I won't buy a DJI or other propriety radio transmitter.
