At the same time some marsh lakes used for leisure activities (angling, sailing, windsurfing, etc) were all told to close "because of an Algae outbreak". Definitely more there than made public. We had a friend who was a farmer in Wales. He basically lost all his cows, sheep and chickens. He couldn't sell milk any more. Was a real pooch screw. He thankfully had a secondary business running a campsite and that's what got him through, but about half his family went bust and lost their farms. We got past mad cows disease and then a year or two later they are killing livestock again for some other reason. A late it's blue tongue (again). I took a long break from building drones. I bought a DJI Mavic Zoom in 2018 and started back into the hobby again just flying trying to be into aerial photography for fun. Did that for a few years and took another break. Just built my first 3” toothpick this year and recently added a Mobula 8. Trying to learn how to fly acro with these small quads and failing miserably. • Posts: 785 Threads: 23 Likes Received: 621 in 429 posts Likes Given: 818 Joined: Jun 2020 Reputation: 31 (16-Jun-2024, 12:20 AM)Radworm Wrote: 56 year old here. OH yeah, Nikko 7.4v nicd with an 8second run time. Enter Nimh and Dad could only afford 1 pack for you. We learned about battery memory and though it was the same with NiMh. Dad made me run that stupid pack forever until the wheels wouldn't move, then charge. Fast forwards to my mid 20s and the Losi MiniT came out and I bought 3. Upgraded to brushless and went 70mph straight into curb. Upgraded again to a $1k all aluminum and carbon fiber Exotec extended buggy with nary a speck of plastic. ? Still a show piece 14years later. Love the Reedy products! The whole time thinking "Cars would be incredible with brushless in them." I predicted Tesla because of the Mini T, then the Revo. Got into collective pitch helis a little but wasn't Tx ready yet for Mode 2. Hit the Sim, enter drones in 2020 and here I am at 47, shit do I turn 48 this year? Lol I forgot! I think I'm 46 bahahaha. I haven't worked since a fractured skull at work in 2007 so bite me. I keep building kwads and not even flying really, just love it. • Posts: 6,156 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,297 in 1,844 posts Likes Given: 4,753 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 103 I believe young folk doesnt join age polls :-) • Posts: 2,686 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 1,429 in 1,073 posts Likes Given: 854 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 43 Aren't you one of those young folk, Hug? There are 36 votes at this point in time. Very interesting thread. Right now, I am 72 years old and am in the process of building a house for our son. Yeah, I am doing the work myself. Ok, I did contract the roof work since I am getting old. Unfortunately, I can still out work many younger folks which is likely due to attitude than physical strength. My gut perspective is that the majority of the members are older men with highly technical backgrounds, middle income, and mostly from 1st world countries. Although the forum has global members, I also perceive many (maybe most) to be from the USA, then UK and Europe. I have a theory on why the folks in the Generations appear to be lazier than the next, but the discussion might well be beyond the scope of this post. The short answer is that each generation has been exposed to more and more Liberal Wokeness and socialist values rather than good old fashioned Christian conservative values. They have no direction and look for hope in the void, black holes. Plus, there seems to be less interest in knowing any technical stuff...Google will answer it for me, let my phone do it -AND- they are not builders...of anything. I'm a woke liberal who thinks god is a poorly written fairy tale character. I'm not lazy. I know younger millennials and zoomers who are very religious and also very lazy and unmoored. I also know 70 year olds who are conservative Christians and verrrry lazy, living in squalor of their own design. People come in all types and varieties and trying to generalize their traits is usually a mistake. On another note, probably best to avoid politics and religion on this site. I am Hella lazy, or at least the doctors call it ADHD and Autism Spectum. But for kwad talk, let's talk about how I've have this 7/8" RVS Big Yeet sitting here with no XT60 on it. ITS BEEN THIS WAY FOR 2 YEARS!!!! I was more of a noob when I built it. Didn't know I didn't need GPS AND Optical flow, didn't know about Ardupilot and Inav was the way to make it all work. I built 7 kwads after that one I never finished. Sometimes, as we get older we understand priority better. OUR priority that is. I do what I do in the time I decide to do it. It comes as a benefit when you are sort of disabled (perfectly from the rat race) I take care of my family and the home. I could only wish I had a wife that did that stuff but nope, it's me. So I call myself lazy when I'm not doing something, but even if I'm sitting, I'm tinkering. Apologies to anyone who is or was upset by my comments as that was not my intention. I fully well understand that each of us is an individual and that there are always variations, exceptions, and outliers in any group of statistical data whether gathered or just generally perceived. Yet, the statistical averages, norms, and generalizations are more on point than we would like to believe. This survey typifies that. Even though there are outliers (I consider myself to be one of them), the world is driven by the norms, perceived values, observed behaviors, and general characteristics of the masses. Consider, that when someone refers to any of the "Generations", a certain, typical, profile comes immediately to mind. Right? Why is that? It is the averages that define the group, not those who deviate from it. As far as lazy........I am lazy. I am too lazy to learn new things but I am here and struggling with all these new technologies. I think the real issue is the definition of lazy. We as human have to eat. So we can never be too lazy to get up and put some food in us. However the amount of productivity can a human produce can be linked to laziness.....or not. As a human, heck even animals we all like to take the easy way out. It is all a matter of economics. We all want maximum benefits with the minimum amount of costs. So how we define benefits and costs will be different between each human. That costs and benefits principle lead to a lot of different terms like greed, ambitious, stamina, laziness.........etc. However we all strive for the same thing. It is just a matter of how we perceive it. Is a bank robber "lazy"? It is definitely beyond the definition of a "good" citizen in a society. However to perform a perfect heist the bank robber will have to do a lot of home work. Things like casing the bank etc. So the amount of work may very well exceed a factory worker doing 9 to 5. How about the couch potato? Lots of variation in this theme. • |
