Interesting all these Gen terms apparently only apply to the US, so what if you're from another country? Not having grown up here, I heard these terms used but never really got them straight.

And some stats on Gen X

Wow, didn't expect to be one of the youngest here. Forums really are for old people, lol.

The generation terms are also used in the UK too, so maybe it's just a US / UK thing and forum members in other world countries have no idea what we're talking about Big Grin

Can remember watching the news as a child when they reported that Chernobyl had gone bang.  The Berlin Wall came down.  USSR collapsed mainly due to Chernobyl.  The Gulf War. War in the Falklands.  We saw a lot of wars in the last 40 years.  When my niece talks to me and she has no concept of things like not being able to meat or dairy products because of radioactive contamination.  Or the fact we had several really bad farming related disease outbreaks in the 80s and 90s.  The AIDS crisis.  The hurricane that hit the south coast.  But she did go through a pandemic. :/

I am actually a boomer but they seemed to leave out the fuel shortage crisis in the 70's...

I still remember going to the gas station and gasoline was only 32 cents a gallon. That was right before the long lines and gas rationing.

Of course, I could get all my school club members to sign up, and seriously skew this survey to the youngest end!

In the UK it was the 70's and Ted Heath's fight with the miners, power workers, etc.  I still have the petrol ration book for my "home to station" oil mix in tank two stroke Mobylette moped  (CNJ 157B, how's that for (useless) retained 50 year memory).

The old lead acid car batteries, chargers, and old sealed beam headlights we used to have some lighting during the frequent cuts have long gone, along with the moped.

BTW, Memory is a strange thing, my reg's from first car..... 706 PPD (AND door key FP 713, it had a separate ignition key which started FS, then a fuel filler key, a tubular alarm key, one for the Racing Kart trailer hitch, one for the garage lockup, quite a "bunch" Wink ), KYO 813D, LLR 210K, CAB 587N, RHG 489P, etc, etc, etc.  All long gone.

I can remember being told that Chernobyl was not a concern for the UK, yet in short order flocks of sheep on Romney Marsh were being quietly destroyed, then more up through Kent.

At the same time some marsh lakes used for leisure activities (angling, sailing, windsurfing, etc) were all told to close "because of an Algae outbreak".

Definitely more there than made public.

Gen X here. When I got my license (80s) gas was still under a buck a gallon. I remember going through the sofa for gas money... My first RC craft was a control-line plane.
