good work, i'd use goop or something other than hot glue.

I ended up using a little bit of FoamTac. Sticks to the silicone wire well, and should be easy to remove from the PCB should I need to.

I have everything besides the "micro sensor suite" wired up and tested. Just need to solder up a VTC6 with an XT30 and I'm ready for a test flight!

While the GPS UART is open, I'm considering wiring up an OpenLager to collect some blackbox data to check the PID tune. Not sure if it's worth it on such a small build though. Thoughts?

I'm gonna test out my GPS babytooth today. I ended soldering to the motor 5 pin on the mcu and setting up soft serial and assigning the correct timer.

First test, can I grab sats with everything so close together.

I will not push this one, it's just for testing.

as i thought the issue would be, i can't get any satellites b/c of proximity of vtx to gps. new frame it is!

How do you have the GPS mounted? Can you post a picture? I wonder if you can shield under the GPS with a small piece of aluminum foil, being careful not to short anything.

i'll grab a pic in a bit, i shielded with copper tape as well.

I have it stuck to the top of my camera mount

this worked, i'm going to put it in front, just wires aren't long enough.

i taped it to the battery, that's an older hlgrc gps that's always been great.

gps rescue and failsafe trigger, both worked.

Sweet! I saw a post yesterday on FB and was going to post it here for you as a suggestion, but I guess it was your post!  ROFL

Looking forward to hear how the 13mm motors work for you. At some point I want to pick up a set of those to compare with the ROBO 1202.5s. eCalc says the ROBOs are way more efficient, but I wonder if the slightly larger stator on the FPVCycle motors will translate into better control and flying characteristics.

for this quad the gps stuff is done, i wanted to make sure i could do it. I'm going to build another 1s quad, i need to wait for the 1s board to come into stock.

interesting about the robos, maybe i'll give those a whirl. This quad is for putting around. My babytooth is for yard ripping.

I am super jealous you already built one and are planning you next build.

I have an entire 1s FPVcycle Babytooth build on the back burner since November 2020 because I am missing the 1s board.

The last time they restocked (I received a notification email at approx 5:00am Adelaide Time in the morning) and by the time I could get out of bed and onto my laptop to place an order it was sold out. All of this happened in a matter of minutes.

I hope they restock in good quantity this time.

I checked for that fc everyday for months. When I randomly checked that day they were out, I dropped what I was doing and snagged one.it was pure luck.

Got this build flyable, but still plenty of work that needs to be done. I am strongly considering revising the frame to give myself a little more room to work, as it's super tight given everything I'm trying to jam in here.

I also had to make a number of compromises in terms of mounting antennas and such as there was no consideration for these in the frame design. As I wanted this to be "long range" capable, I tried to keep the antennas up high. All of these improvisations did not lead to a pretty build, but I'll do some flight tests like this and see where I need to make improvements.

AUW is a portly 116g with the full GPS/compass module with long wires (since I haven't figured out final mounting), long VTX antenna, and cobbled together mounts. So there is significant room for weight savings still, especially if I remix the frame.

The one thing I'm worried about is the XT30 connector is super tight for some reason, and it's difficult to disconnect the battery. Has anyone figured out how to loosen one up?

Pics and hopefully a video of the maiden coming soon!

It was windy (15-20mph, 40mph gusts), but I managed a successful maiden and a little bit of LOS flying. Quad flew great! Certainly not overpowered, but felt locked in and no jello in the video.

I may switch to Avan 3 blade props next for a little more thrust, but it handled the wind fine on 3018 biblades. If the wind dies down tomorrow I'll do some laps FPV to get an idea of current draw. The current sensor I was going to use was just too large to fit on this tiny frame, so I may try to wire one up naked by just soldering wires to the IC.
