Sub 250g Frame recommendations
#1
I have the goal to build a sub 250g freestyle type quad. One of my main criteria is to have it be and HD quad. I have been back and forth on which frame to use and cant seem to get a definitive decision made. I am ok with one of the split cameras and am not sure I want a twig type frame to keep the props out of the camera. I like the Airblade Intrepid V2 but am not sure I can get it below 250g if I want to run it on 4s. I would like it be around 220g AUW to allow for the use of an Insta 360 Go in the future....

Any advise from the sages here would be greatly appreciated.

When you say HD, are you referring to the video recording or do mean the FPV feed?

Here is my 5 inch. With Tattu 4S 450mah (55g), you can keep it under 250g.

If you want to build a 3 inch, you should be able to keep it under 220g. You want to add up all the components to see if the Airblade will work.

Can you post all the components and the weight?

I just finished a RacerX ET5 build ( Betafpv 1505 /Mamba 405 mini stack)  and still fly Mutant 4" ( Betafpv AIO board +1404).

Both with  Tarsier Camera and with the tall RacerX HD canopy,  there is no props in view on the HD recording if the camera  angle is set around 25-30degree. Caddx Tarsier has good FPV video  but there's annoying  quirk in use ( manual button press to stop recording after each flight  to prevent file corruption).

ET5 -171g,  Mutant 4" -133g.   3" Twig 70g has Baby Turtle camera  (1080P) but the FPV video is bad.
These are not build for speed, more floaty freestyle with 3s.

My ET5 still needs some PID tuning.

Here's a video of the Mutant 4 from a few months ago and you can see there's  no props in view.

Jasper,

No props in view on the ET 5 and 171 g, is that w/o a battery? If so what battery an what is the AUW on the ET 5. That was mt original plan but wasn't sure if it would make weight.

Yes, that's without battery. With 850mah 3s, ET5 AUW is 241g.
If you want more speed, 450-650mah 4S should just squeeze in under 250g.

The Acrobrat Duo (v2 design) was specifically designed for split style HD cameras and have props out of view. My build comes in at 249g on the dot auw with a 650mAh 4s getting about 2.5 min of hard flying with a Runcam Hybrid 4K ...

This is kinda where i am leaning on my hopeful future build...

Airblade Intrepid V2 44g ($36.99)
Emax Eco 1404 6000KV 8.6g (34.4g total)not including wire) ($10.99 each)
Caddx Baby Turtle V2 12g ($64.99)
HGLRC Fd445 15.5g ($47.99)
Pands RC VTX5804 Mini X 3g ($16.99)
Propr HQ T3x3 1.25g (5g total) ($5.00)

Total wight of these components is 114g, not sure how much else the other misc components will be. Cost so far is around $217.00. Not sure if it is worth the effort to build myself or just buy a pre-made HD quad......

Thoughts, recommendations ????????

Misc stuff will likely add 20-30g.

That is the dilemma these days. Pre-built cost has come down so much, sometimes it is not worth it. But I like building, so if the cost is similar, I rather build.
