WOW, I'm a little late to the party, but congratufreakinglations! Bad ass. I think your OCD is the secret sauce for future success in this endeavor. Good luck bro! However, wouldn't less standoffs affect the durability? Absolutely. My thinking though is that if this was built sub250 like it was meant to be, I'm not so sure you need any more standoffs. I doubled down on that by going M2 standoffs. Most other frames out there using only 4 standoffs use M3. I came to this idea when I crashed my Dave_C micro split-S'ing head first into a concrete garbage receptacle. The quad survived even enough to turtle out of it and fly back. That frame uses M2 standoffs. With that said, I'll be the first to admit these frames were never designed with durability as the priority. Sub250 was the priority. I'm super stoked to say that 1) ... it is still well below 250g despite the added CF ... ... and 2) the gyro_scaled looks much better than v2 (owing to the thicker CF). And with very aggressive filtering ... ... we are getting some pretty clean gyro traces ... This is a great combination because that means you could probably run 2004s on this thing. The v1 freaked out like a possessed bat out of hell with 2004s lol. I have yet to try though because honestly I think the 1404s are a great power system for sub-250. I also would rather spend the weight on a Insta360 Go replacing the HD split cam. With that said, the T-Motor 1404 3800KV ran literally warm (but not hot) at D=40. Normally, they run literally cool leaving me some headroom to go D=45 if I wanted to. This was odd to me. But other than that, even with FF=125, the motors did not run any warmer and I've got the PIDs dialed into what I would have generally expected so nothing weird there. Other than a lot of cosmetic changes and refinements, the biggest structural change from the v2 was a 0.5mm thicker brace plate ... The camera cage was also beefed up from a 3mm frame width to 4mm (still 2mm thickness in total) ... And the lipo pad ... damn the lipo pad is sick guys!! If so, please check your cam cage if it's loose in its top and bottom plate slots. If it has gotten loose, you can fix this by putting any kind of small bit of tape across the top of those 4 notches (the 2 that interlock with the top plate and the 2 for the bottom). Screwing back in the cam cage should be a lot more secure now with even just one layer of tape. I'm really sorry about this if you are experiencing this problem. I told the one guy that PM'ed me about this issue that I had opened up all the packaging to redo the kits and make sure the cam cage interlocks were secure. They may have loosened up over time. I paid a LOT of attention to these interlocks on all frames after the Ronin Mk1. If you continue to have issue with it, let me know please here in pm or in public, either way is ok! Thank you guys! I will keep this in mind on the next MK1 build. I haven't had any issues, but then I used aluminum cam braces on my Ronin-MK1 ONE due to my tiny camera. I used the GEPRC Rocket Aluminum Camera Cage. It adds $10.50 to the build, but fits extremely well. By the way, I like those slots for the cam cage; they allow a bit of front to back movement of the aluminum cage. Also, I am keeping a list of builds that are using the Ronin MK1 frame HERE. I'll tell ya what ... this time at the park made me realize what the mission of roninUAV has always been. While I was flying, I could hear someone else ripping in the park!! In my other video you could see me darting around trying to figure out where this guy was lol. Later I found him tucked away in the far corner of the park in front of his car flying around in this super tight perimeter he made for himself. The thing was so freeging loud. There were kids running around and an outdoor church service or something in the grove near him. Honestly, I felt bad for the guy as he was clearly trying to keep from bothering people. And that 5 incher he was ripping was so ridiculously loud that I thought he was much closer to me than he was. Meanwhile I'm flying all over the place like an idiot bouncing off trees and such covering the entire length of the park LOLLL ... but people didn't care. If anything they were super curious and I could hear little kids near me yelling out, "I see it there it is!" lolol. You can even see them eyeing the thing in the video. See, this (to me, at least) is fun. Not worrying about other people (*while still flying safe and smart*) is fun. It really hit home what I'd always suspected - people are generally flying things that are way more than they need to have fun. So why do they fly them? I dunno. Cos a cool guy with a funky mustache flies em? Whatever the reason, I see it as taking away from the hobby (and lining someone's pockets in the process). So at that park watching that kid struggle to "have fun" it struck me what the mission of roninUAV has always been: To make FPV fun. I've memorialized this concept on the website ... |
