Need help choosing replacement motor
#1
Hey guys,

Just recently had a motor go out on my king kong 90gt.  My buddy dropped it from like 100ft in the air lol one of the windings broke.  Not sure if thats what caused the crash or not.

Anyways I was wondering if I should replace it with another identical motor or if I should replace all 4 with the racerstar 1103B motors.  The KK motors are so so quality and the bell always slides on the motor shaft when putting props on.  Plus the racerstar are open bottom style which I like.

So question is should I buy 4 KK motors and have 3 spare or just replace all 4 with some hopefully better quality motors.

Also will the 3A esc on the KK 90gt be able to handle the 8000kv versions of the racerstars?  It currently has 7800kv motors.  Let me know what you guys think please.

The quality on the Racerstar motors isn't much different to the KingKong motors, so I'd suggest that you buy two or more new KK motors and have some in stock for quick replacement next time.

If you feel motor quality is an issue Id replace all 4 if your at it.
You can bust much more if another one fails on you mid-air.
If the damage is due to a crash you'd be fine replacing just 1.

I have had some issues with RacerStar motors, though I would use them if I needed a motor quickly.  By a few spares and get a set of 4 to replace all that are currently there.  You do not want one 8000kv motor competing against the other three 7800kv ones.  I am terrible at math, so determining if my setup is working well is more art than fact in my world.  I just know it is better to run a "matched" set of motors than to mix-n-match them.

Looking at the chart, I would say that you would be pushing your ESC board pretty hard and it would likely not last as long as it could.

OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :)
