Betaflight Motor Test Results in SmokeStopper overvoltage
#1
Hello!

I'm finishing my second drone build and am having a bit of trouble with testing my motors in Betaflight. When I attach a battery via SmokeStopper, connect to the drone in betaflight, go to motors tab, and enable the motor testing, it gives me an overvoltage error on the smokestopper. It doesn't give any problems when initially plugging in with the smokestopper and battery, only when attempting to test the motors while having done so.

I found this thread:
https://intofpv.com/t-weird-motor-behavior-on-new-build

I believe I may be experiencing the same issue, but am not positive because the other poster was able to test at a lower RPM, whereas I am not able to get any movement from my motors prior to the smokestopper tripping when lifting the master slider or single sliders individually. This is my only concern.

As this is a new build, I'm a bit skiddish to plug it in raw but having not found any other cause of failure, I think I may just be being overly cautious.

Any help/advice is much appreciated!

Troubleshooting I've tried:
I've flashed the most recent version of Betaflight
I've flashed the ESC with the most recent version of BlueJay
I checked for continuity between points around the drone and found none, at least not where there shouldnt be
I am using DSHOT 300 in betaflight, 3.2khz PID loop frequency, and esc local frequency set to 48khz via bluejay

The smoke stopper isn't likely capable of running a 5" motors and it's not intended to. It's more or less a pass test device on plugging the battery in, if it doesn't trip remove it and proceed with setup.

I have this one and it does have a button that you can toggle between 1a and 2a mode. At 2a you might be able to run one at a time. I had one build where the custom startup sounds were enough to trip the 1a mode.

Haha, the button to switch that didnt occur to me! My prior build was smaller, so I had told myself that I cant toggle that early on, but things have changed, lol

Thanks for the reassurance, as well as pointing out the obvious!

You won't be able to RUN the motors with the smoke stopper, they draw to much power and WILL trip out the stopper. It is only to check the other electronics.

your motors draw current, you tested the smokestopper.
proceed without smokestopper attached.
you dont need to do a lot testing, just settup motor order and direction and test them in a real flight scenario ;-) happy maidenflight
