HGLRC M100-5883 Wiring Fault
#1
Exclamation
"Just an FYI incase someone else has a similar issue...."

I finally got around to connecting my HGLRC M100-5883 ("NON-Mini") GPS , And upon double, triple checking all the wires etc, Hooking up a battery etc, Everything lite up EXCEPT the GPS...

So....... I pulled everything apart and did a continuity check from the GPS 6 wire plug on the FC side, To the plug that connects to the GPS module itself..
And all Pins checked out - 1 for 1 - And had continuity on all 6 from the FC side to the actual pads on the top side of the GPS itself..

One thing I found very weird, Was the Power and ground coming outta FC had the Power on Pin 5 and the ground on Pin 6. (could be pins 1&2 b ut im too lazy to look right now, but you get my drift) But on the GPS side the Ground was on Pin 1 and the power was on pin2 .

So I just reversed the 2 wires on the FC side, and she powered right up...

Weird, I dont think I grabbed a different harness plug, Only bc Ive never had any 6 wire plugs before this install. Maybe I was given a harness and the 2 wires were reversed??? I Dunno...

Which goes to show everyone, When Applicable!!!!    Always solder when you have the ability too...

I will leave the clip plugged into the GPS itself, as I have it hot glued into the unit itself. But I WILL ABSOLUTLEY SOLDER the GPS wires directly onto the FC pads as soon as the wife goes to bed, and leaves me alone, so I can go into my garage and goto town....

"Just an FYI incase someone else has a similar issue...."
 -Thanks Again Guys

I guess you are lucky that the HGLRC M100-5883 GPS module seemingly has built in reverse polarity protection Smile

I guess it is just me, but I always check the component for wiring information.
Yeah, I notice a long time ago that wiring harnesses and colors are not always
what one would expect.

Yeah, I also like connectors. I know my methods might seem a bit unorthodox,
but they work for me. I take the wiring harness supplied with the GPS and put
a connector on the other end; then, I solder the matting connector with a short
pigtail to the FC. This second connector allows me to correct any cross wiring
from the GPS harness, allows easy changing of the GPS module, and allows
the GPS to be removed while only leaving a short wired connector attached to
the FC. While this method is not for everyone, it works exceptionally well for
me.

would anyone or does anyone or does Everyone usually use the " U-Center 2 " software when configuring the GPS, Pre BF?

or would you think this new GPS came configured, and me using that "U-Center 2" is Overkill????

I set everything up in BF, and it looked like the GPS was working, but no matter what I did, I wasn't successful in lighting up the GPS icon at the top of the BF page..

Has anyone had any issues with that?
How or what else did you do to configure, and setup GPS?
How would one go about testing the GPS to verify is working correctly?

-Thanks Everyone

Never used it yet, but it looks interesting.

Not sure that I would call it overkill. If the GPS is not working, maybe that is a useful resource.

Did you have the main battery plugged into the quad? If not, try that.
Depending on what pads used to power the GPS, it might not be getting
power with the just the USB, but should with the main battery.
