First Build
#1
Greetings all. New to the forum and fpv.
Wanted to share my first build which will hopefully be completed today. Waiting on the receiver.
I have some doubts with my motor choice. I've been trying to read and understand kv rating and such.
So here is my build list.
Frame: Geprc mark 5 pro
Motor:  T-Motor Slatts 2306.3 1700Kv Motor
FC ESC: T-Motor Velox F411 Lite FC+V45A LITE Stack
Props: Lumenier Gate Breaker 5x5.3x3 Tri-Blade 5
VTX:  RUSHFPV Tank II Ultimate 30x30 25-800mW 5.8GHz
Camera: Foxeer Toothless 2 Nano Starlight 1200TVL CMOS 4:3/16:9
Batttery: Tattu 6S Lipo Battery R-Line Version 3.0 1400mAh 22.2V 120C

I had ordered the new Speedybee F405 V3 but that won't be here for another week so that will be for another build.
I may replace the esc as it isn't mounted correctly...I guess. My main concern is the power to weight ratio. If these motors are under powered I don't want to fly it for long or at all. Suggestion, advice, tips all appreciated.

The ESC and flight controller orientation can be adjusted in betaflight (or other FC software) so there is no worry there if it makes more sense to mount it the way you want. I generally mount the ESC with the battery leads behind the camera.

How do you plan to fly it, if those are the motors and KV Slatt uses he doesn't seemed to be hampered by it. Now if you were going for higher speeds maybe something with a higher KV would suffice.

Certainly not going for speed as this is my first fpv build. Will take it slow and most likely crash and brake stuff.

Welcome to the forum!

Power to weight shouldn’t be an issue with your chosen components.

The motor data sheet doesn’t list the props you’re using, but with lower pitch props (HQ J37, 4.9x3.7x3) on 6s, each motor creates 1468.9g of thrust. With 4 motors, that’s 5875.6g of thrust.

Even if your AUW (all up weight- weight of the quad, battery, and any other accessories) was 900g, you’d still be at a respectable 6.5 to 1 power to weight ratio.

(I don’t know what your AUW will be, so I way overestimated in case you’re planning on mounting a GoPro and whatnot)
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

Ooh ok. I didn’t think about adding the thrust of all the motors and props lol. That makes more sense. I have a GoPro 7 I may put on. Thanks for the replies!

So I got the receiver. It's a Radiomaster R81. I've connect power ground accordingly. The sbus wire I had on the sbus pad of the tmotor f411 fc. Nothing happened. It binds to the radio fine. So I move the sbus wire to R1 on the fc and still nothing happens. I have serial rx enabled in betaflight and in the receiver tab I'm not getting any response. What am I doing wrong?

Got input in betaflight from my radio but nothing happens when the drone isn’t connected to betaflight.

I suggest starting a new thread in the beginner section, it will get more eyes on it and you’ll likely get answers quicker.

You say nothing happens, can you elaborate? Do you hear tones when you plug in your battery, and how many?

Did you set up your modes in betaflight? (Arm, etc?)
Are you getting any error/warning messages in your goggles?

As a side note, you mentioned that you’re new to fpv. Take this as you will- I strongly suggest putting some time in on a simulator.

Regardless, when you do go out to fly, please go somewhere large and open and safe, away from people and property. What you’ve built has enough power and weight to do some serious damage.
Dangerous operations.

I have a feeling I have a faulty board because I'm not getting any response from my radio in betaflight again. Yes I set up modes in betaflight when my radio was working. Disconnected it from the computer and plugged in a battery and nothing happens. Blue light on the fc flashes slowly. not sure what the means. The lack of documentation from tmotor is frustrating. Not sure what to do from here but gonna call it a night. Oh no warning in the goggles.

Some things you’re going to get asked for when you start the new thread:
Pictures of wiring (clear and up close), diff all, dump… probably more as well but those will help get people started helping you troubleshoot.

Thank you for your help. Yeah first time at fpv so I know it will be different. I have been playing drl and when I do get this drone working I will start out with angle mode in a big open area taking it slow. I’m pretty sure it won’t fly anything like my Autel evo 1. Regardless it will be fun. I really enjoyed building it.

I enjoy the building just as much as I enjoy the flying.

I hope you can get your issues sorted out in your other thread, and once again, welcome to the forum. There’s some awesome people here.

Great build so far and your motors should be fine at 6S. Not as fast as say 1900KV but 1700KV should be fine - at least you will have a lot of low throttle resolution which may be good for a beginner.

Might also be good for you to post screenshots of your BF settings as well as pics of your wiring. I'm always amazed by how often I'm ready to buy a new FC because I thought the one I had was botched but it turned out to be something else and the FC is completely fine.

This one is officially done. Still gotta take it outside for its maiden voyage. I had to relocate the gps because it wasn't getting a signal. Had it mounted under the camera and this being my first build I don't mind it being on top in front of the battery. Should stay? zip tie and double sided tape.
Thanks to everyone in this thread for helping out!
