ELRS RXLoss flying with other people
#1
Hello All,

I've got a random one, I fly down a rugby field local to me most days and I’ve never once had any issue with my ELRS connection.

Last night I was out with a friend who was also flying with me and on multiple occasions we both experienced RXLoss leading to a failsafe.

Is this a known issue? it seemed to get a bit better when we had more space between us but we were still stood a few meters apart when it was happening.

I'm using a Tx12 Mk2 with the Micro ranger module in the back and a mix of SPI BetaFPV FC's and Radiomaster RP RX's while my friend was using a BetaFPV Lite Radio 3 Pro with a BetaFPV SPI FC. Both on 250hz and dynamic power and we have very different bind phrases.

The strange part to me is the RXloss didn’t happen when either of us were powering up a drone, it was while we were both in the air.

Hopefully its just a case of me being an idiot and standing further away in the future.

There shouldn't be any issues operating multiple systems close to each other. At worst, you'd expect a max 1% decrease in LQ for each additional system operating in the same area. At FliteFest, there were a bunch of people flying ELRS with 100 planes in the air at the same time, and none reported control issues.

If you both failsafed at the same time, it sounds like there was some extremely strong wideband 2.4GHz noise in the area.

Do you have any DVR or telemetry logs showing RSSI dBm, LQ, and RSNR?

Cheap Chinese jammer from aliexpress and you have problems with the link quality. Probably someone really doesn’t like it when something flies in the air.
I once lost a Composite ARF MX2 worth USD15,000 on a flight when a group of people who decided to have a picnic near our airfield didn't like it.

I'll have a look at the DVR and see what i can find, from memory LQ was at 100 when one of us was flying and then dropping to around 90-95 when both in the air, then randomly RXLoss. (i've only got LQ on my OSD and also they are whoops so no BB logs)

Next time i work out how the logging works on the TX and try that too.

Its not a jammer or other signal interference as i fly at this location every day on my own and have never had any issues at all. We've also had the same happen flying together in other spots.

I know in theory that there shouldnt be any issues but the only times i've ever experienced RXloss is when both of us are flying.

You mentioned you use different passphrases, but it might be worth double-checking that your UUIDs are in fact different. Not likely but maybe you both stumbled on the two different passphrases that generates the same UUID?
Just curious is this on ELRS 2 or 3?

Just checked and both UUID's are indeed very different, both os us running on ELRS 3 too. Went out again yesterday to the same spot on my own and had no issues at all. Its a weird one!

How about putting them both on 100 (non dynamic) and see if it continues.. I know it “shouldn’t”..

if anyone finds this with the same issue, update your ELRS TX and RX... looks like it was caused by this: https://github.com/ExpressLRS/ExpressLRS/pull/2430

wish i found it sooner, would've saved an arm and a motor!
