You see, i just started flying the simulator to prepare myself for this hobby (got a tbs mambo with tracer). And in the meanwhile I am reading articles and watching a ton of YouTube video's to inform myself about getting the right gear.
Having so much options; my opinion varies from day to day. F.e. it goes from basic analog (cheap right? So you can smash 'em up and have spares) to the o3 system (fpv is nicer when you have a clear image and also it would mean not having to add an actioncam, right?)
I do feel the o3 with the goggles and everything are just too expensive for me at the moment; it would leave me with next to no money for a nice backpack, a decent quad and a decent amount of spares.
What are your thoughts on this? What is a decent way to get in the hobby if you look at camera-vtx-goggle setups for beginners? What is too bad and needs to be avoided at all costs? But what would be decent enough to get some fun out of it in your opinion? Second hand options are fine by me.
Also what kind of drone would you advise for a first diy build?
I am hoping some of you would like to discuss some options with me in this topic
This was bit of full-on project for me, brought together a few new things to make it happen.
Figured out a good LED holder for the lights and got it 3d printed, check. Got the PINIO function to work to be able to turn lights on and off, check. Got HD OSD going given that this is a digital system, check. Got over the fact that I had to install BF 4.4RC5 to make HD OSD work, check. Also got over the fact that I had to update to ELRS 3 because that is the version that ships for SPI receivers when going to BF 4.4, check.
Where to start on this rig. Well, I'll say it is a night flyer designed to incorporate GPS to assist when literally flying blind. Using 2S on 1105 motors with 3 inch props - this makes for a quiet setup.
To save me giving Leon Uris a run for his money, I will bullet the main points of interest.
FC is the betafpv 12A AIO 1-2S, 2022 version.
Digital setup is the walksnail 1S vtx
Big GPS is mounted on battery, not working properly yet as the digital vtx interferes with the signal
4 x 3W leds, mounted with narrow and wide beam plastic lenses
PINIO function tied to a switch on AUX4 to control LEDS on/off
3A rated 5V BEC to power LED driver and vtx
1000uF, 16V electrolytic cap to filter it all
Firmware
BF4.4 RC5
Bluejay 18.1 with RPM filtering

Flying at night is all about reflection. The setup on this quad gives approx 10 meters of good reflection, depending on the surface.
Flying close to objects easier. Once up high without reflection working for you, turn off leds and use GPS.
Can fumble easily when working the led light switch and turning it off/on.
I'll post more info as I go, here is some pics and a demo of the flight. There is more work to do and a few issues (of course!) to work out, namely GPS.
I see lots of reviews for low light cameras. I fly outdoors in bright sunlight. The runcam nano 3 is pretty decent but get pretty bad glare and washed out video from the sunlight. Can anyone recomend a nano camera with sunglasses lol
So I upgraded my old DJI v.1 stuff and bought a new DJI remote, DJI Goggles 2 (Whenever they ship???) and an iFlight quad that takes 6S batteries with the new DJI 03 Air Unit. My question is, I have a lot of 4S batteries and was wondering how much difference there is between 6S and 4S???
OK.. Tried their site, google and a forum search and cannot find the specific Bind procedure for this new Hummingbird F4V2 (F4pro flight controller ELRS).. Trying to bind to a brand new Promaster Zorro.
Can anyone point me to the steps for this?
I have tried to follow youtube instructions on setting up the Zorro for a new model. ************ Tools 01 ExpressLRS [BIND]
Hi, I think my Speedybee F7V3 FC might be dead. I was messing with the PIDs and did a hover test last night and all was good. This morning, when I plug FC into betaflight, it doesn't recognize it (other quads connect ok). Also noticed, the status LEDs on my Speedybee FC are not lighting up when I plug in the battery. The receiver is getting power because it lights up. And since the computer doesnt recognize the FC when plugged into USB, do I probably have a dead FC?
Is there anything else I should check first before I get a new FC?
A couple months back I won a 35A AIO from Fettec. Last night I finally put it in a build. It's all plugs, aside from soldering motors.
However, I noticed that if I have more than one motor soldered up, my smoke stopper will trip about 2 seconds into booting. I took the chance and plugged in without a smoke stopper and it boots fine with no smoke, but I definitely smell burning, even with nothing else plugged into it.
There is no damage on either side of the AIO, either. I'm guessing I got a bum board?
