  Fpv compatibility
Posted by: Lone Drone FPV - 04-May-2023, 05:28 AM - Forum: Beginner Questions - Replies (9)

Hello, I am just beginning my fpv journey. I first bought Dji mini 2 but purchased Dji Avata and Dji Fpv without realizing whoop and tooth picks drones are available. My question is what are the best whoop/toothpick drones that would be compatible with Dji googles and controller?
I want to practice without damaging Dji drones. Thank you guys!

  Box goggles with one eye
Posted by: Suros - 04-May-2023, 04:47 AM - Forum: Analogue FPV System - Replies (6)

Got a buddy who may be getting into FPV, and he's down an eye. Probably aiming to get him some good box goggles, but as I have never had access to them, I can't say how it would appear with just one eye open. Is there anyone who would be willing to tell me how their box goggles look with an eye closed?

  GPS MODULE PLACEMENT
Posted by: hawk01 - 04-May-2023, 03:51 AM - Forum: Beginner Questions - Replies (5)

hello all!

i am considering two frame mounting options of my HGLRC M100 MINI gnss module. please see pics below:

my initial experience with the M100 mini has been excellent so far! it came as you see in the pics with the 200cm cable soldered in place. i just repositioned the 4-pin wire to match the FC, a totally solderless affair. BF4.3.1 set up was also a breeze. i did it indoors beside a window where it easily locked on to 5 satellites within the first minute after powering up. then i proceeded outdoors (minus laptop) to check goggle OSD and it very quickly locked onto 8 satellites within 30secs. it locked on to 17 satellites within +1min. i must admit the M10 must really be a world of improvement at a very tiny form factor.

short Q&A below:

1. rear top frame option affords the best and highest location on the quad. however this puts it in close proximity to the shortish vtx antenna. would there be any issues?

2. motor arm installation affords the best location away from the vtx if this were the major source of noise which may impede the module’s performance. but this puts it between the motor and caddx vista AU. any issues with this as well?

3. i plan to wrap the gnss module and the entire cable length with rubber shrink wrap tubing to protect from exposure and isolation from the carbon frame. is it acceptable to wrap the antenna with opaque rubber material? or should i use the included clear shrink wrap instead?

4. for added security, i also plan to strap the module with ziptie for good measure. from an OC perspective will this bit of nylon straddling across the antenna top affect its performance?

5. for the purist OC option i may still consider having a custom rear mounted TPU which will house the vtx antenna, gnss module and ELRS T-antenna in one install. should i just take this route? my main reservation with this is a rear impact crash puts the tpu assembly directly in harm’s way. not to mention the added weight.

looking forward to user feedback, wisdom and experience from the intofpv.com folks!

Question Bi-directional ESCs?
Posted by: samphirestream - 04-May-2023, 02:58 AM - Forum: Motor, ESC and Prop - Replies (7)

Hi, I'm new to brushless motors and ESCs. I am looking to use drone parts in insect weight (1 and 3 lb) combat robots, but I'm having trouble finding out if most of the drone ESCs will run motors bidirectionally (throttle center). I'm seen some things in my searching that anything with BL_Heli should be able to. Is this true?

The specs on most store pages don't mention anything about it, and most drones wouldn't seem to need it. Can anyone shed some light on this and point me towards ESC's that are bidirectional?

  A 30min surfer ?
Posted by: odie - 03-May-2023, 11:34 PM - Forum: Beginner Questions - Replies (30)

Hi,

I am theorycrafting a bit about a project I want to build, but I am curious if it is even possible.

It would be a 30min+ tree-, and hillside-surfer (no crazy 3d shenanigans).

The biggest concern, is how to make it quiet.  Thinking
Cruising noise I hope to get below what the likes of Mavic Mini creates.

- So far I am considering these things:
Full sized GoPro 10
Deadcat style frame (no props in view)
FCC+ESC stack (no aio)
Buzzer
GPS, with RTH
HDZero camera (I don't want DJI)
ExpressLRS @ 868 MHz
Li-Ion pack to get the high flight times
Compatibility with an autopilot for waypoint missions (like ArduPilot or similar)

AUW below 900 grams

What motors, and props to go for I have no idea, as one of my biggest priorities is getting it as quiet as possible.

I even considered going for four different kinds, to create a less noisy harmonic instead of the usual thing,
but it might be too complicated for me still, and I'm not sure if there is anything out there right now to tune such a creation.

  Sometimes “Murphy” shows up..
Posted by: Rob Axel - 03-May-2023, 02:49 PM - Forum: General Topics - Replies (1)

Recently I have a deep interest in 4” freestyle.. seems like they check (most) boxes for the direction of the hobby.. So I am looking for all available components for them.. This will be a WS 4” freestyle 4s rig. (Sub 250 if possible)
1804 3500kv motors w/3 mm (internal) shaft and 5mm prop nut is what I decided on.. These are only available from manufacture and one supplier (that I could find). They of course are “out of stock”..
Found multiple KVs / props mounts / shaft dia. elsewhere.. I put myself on the “notify when available” list and WAITED, and waited, got everything else sitting waiting to be completed on my desk..still no luck..
I finally said “That’s it!” And decided to order Untested, motors with 3400kv an 2mm inner shafts that were more expensive.. figured if they hold up “great” if not.. I’m ATLEAST not back to square one..
I had “himmmed and hawed” about this way to long so I Place the order, added items to qualify for free shipping (it was so close, the shipping cost would have done it if it was added.).. no big,
My email showed the order l, along with a sale from another fpv supplier.. Luckily, they don’t carry these motors..They do however have 4s 1300mw 100c lipos for $14.99. …. Yeah, I said the same thing! Placed my order, saw the shipping cost and said “do much for the discount price”..so I (again) look at my “FPV wish list”, see what I can add to get “free shipping”.. got tired of seeing “out of stock”.. so do I buy a boatload of batteries or stuff I don’t need? Settled on BOTH.. As I was checking out, the site locked up multiple times.. made multiple attempts, finally went another route.. and got it completed..(hint hint).
The charge didn’t show on pay pall.. but my credit card did…a BUNCH!! Contacted the supplier via phone, unsuccessfully. Email- they confirmed only one order.. the CC were “holds” that would drop off.. PHEW!!
I’m getting all excited about this build, checked my email this morning got the “order has shipped”.. AND another email “1804 3500kv motors are BACK IN STOCK”!
Well, Mr. Murphy gave me a kick in the pants to get motivated and “work with what u have”…
So I place my order, check my “fpv wish list” and YES! The antennas I need for my goggles are IN STOCK!!
SCORE ONE FOR MR. MURPHY!!
I didn’t NEED to purchase ALL that stuff .. would I have later? Maybe? It is just an example of the old phrase “strike while the iron is hot..” for us old farts.. the younger ones will relate to “Do or DO NOT, there is no TRY”..
I can’t believe I just quoted Yoda..?

  Mamba F405 MK2 Disarm Issue
Posted by: Satyr - 03-May-2023, 09:23 AM - Forum: Flight Controller - Replies (19)

hello, I took off for a test flight with my 7 inch quad and stopped for a short time in the hover position to check the motor temperatures, as soon as the quad touched the ground at the moment of landing, it suddenly got out of control, breaking the props and turned upside down and even though I tried to disarm, the non-prop motors started to work in reverse. continued. I couldn't disarm from the remote. After working for a while, I was able to stop it by removing the battery after all the props were destroyed. I am using mamba f405 mk2 stack and tbs crossfire receiver. my remote tango 2 pro v3. Is this problem normal? Anyone have experience before? It's a situation I've been through once. I didn't understand? Did it react like this because air mode was turned on, or do you think there is a problem with fc? all settings were normal, I hovered after building and the problem did not appear. Happened to me when I was trying to fly outside.

  Hello

Hi everyone.

I've been off and on this hobby for quite some time, but never really done much building, so here I am.

My first introduction was to planes in the nineties, then helis a short while later.
Some friends back then were into boats, and cars, but I found it to be too grounded.

I first began with simulators with a RealFlight G3.5 bundle, and I probably have most of my flighthours these days here.
The hangar doesn't contain much anymore. Most crafts that had an insane upkeep cost (crash cost), like petrol 600s have gotten new homes.

Currently I can be seen trashing around a V977.
For LOS it's the tiny Hubsan X4, and for automated flight a Mavic Mini.

I do hope to add another selfmade craft soon to complement the Mini, but for that I will have to make a build help post.
