X9D (non plus) and R-XSR firmware flash: no luck
#1
Hey guys,
I've got an old X9D non plus version. I'm trying to flash new firmware on my R-XSR.
I've followed different tutorials online just to be sure.

I'm powering the R-XSR with 5v FTDI adapter (I'm using 3s battery for my taranis, so that's why).

I've connected RX S.port pin to the bottom pin of external module bay of my Taranis.

RX turns on fine (blue led fixed, red flashing as never binded), but when I launch "flash external device" I do always get a "Firmware update error  Module not responding".

I'm pretty confident of my wiring, and I've already check cable continuity.
I'm running open tx 2.2.1 (without multimodule option, but that shouldn't matter).

Any idea? Just for reference (and I don't know if that's intended): I'm not getting any voltage reading on my "Antenna PIN" of my taranis (the bottom one in the module bay).

Any idea?
thanks so much for your help!

Sounds like a firmware mismatch. What version of R-XSR firmware are you trying?

I'm trying 171103 (both FCC and LBT version), but also latest 171103 LBT version. Should I also try fport one?

Just tried with that version, but very same problem. Digging hard into forum and google, but no real alternatives found Sad

The only thing I could suggest is to update the fw on your X9D if it's not already the latest version

I've tried 2.2.2 RC1 but same behaviour  Dodgy

Just to be 100% sure: is the external module pinout the same since I don't have a plus version?

I think RENOV8R is firmware for your internal module, which is different from the operating system (opentx). I don't think updating the internal module firmware will help you with flashing R-XSR. Let me check the pinout and get back to you.

Bottom pin is S. Port. So you have wiring correct. I wonder of powering it from the external bar will work. Not sure if RX needs to be grounded to TX to flash.
