Geeeezzzzzz!!! I originally started flying FPV in angle mode, then I decided I need to learn acro and while I was learning I was flying LOS. So I got to the point that I could at least putter around in acro and thought, time to go back to FPV. I am having a terrible time with it. The biggest problem I am having is with maintaining a consistent altitude. I fly low...generally under 6 feet and I keep bouncing it off the ground. Also I am finding very difficult to move forward at a slow pace...I end up hovering and then before I know it I am drifting backwards or off to the side. OF course I only started this return to FPV today and I am sure it's going to take a while to get a handle on it just as it did learning acro in LOS. I almost sent it through the kitchen window today. Got away from me and by the time I realize where it was headed the only thing I could do was chop the throttle and it hit about two inches under the window on the brick (more battle scars). I am also using an 8" screen, not goggles and that may be throwing me a curve as well. Ok.....I've whined enough....just needed to vent. This is a wonderful place to learn and I really appreciated all that have helped me along the way!! "Damn the torpedoes!!! That's the spirit . If you lived in my neck of the woods I would come fly with you and teach you the little I know, but at least get you up and flying FPV. • Posts: 1,290 Threads: 67 Likes Received: 713 in 473 posts Likes Given: 1,216 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 23 I am not sure I could comprehend "the little you know", because from what I've seen/read, you know quite a lot. The offer is appreciated greatly, thank you! I've always wanted to visit your neck of the wood, so you never know. Maybe I'll show up and you can fly and I'll do a lot of crashing. hahahahhaha Thanks Biggles! "Damn the torpedoes!!! At my age I have a right to be impatient damn it!! Anyway, so far I haven't almost taken the power out on anything.....yet, so you're at least one up on me! Appreciate the kind words Jimmy! I shall continue to bore everyone with my saga....oh...maybe they can make a movie??? No? Oh well, worth a shot. : ) "Damn the torpedoes!!! I had mine almost pointed straight forward, so when it was on the ground I can I actually see the ground just below midway point of my screen. that'll cause you to fly slower, and you'll be able to see the ground while flying so you'll be able to judge altitude. after a few flights you'll get use to adjusting throttle with your pitch. • Posts: 1,290 Threads: 67 Likes Received: 713 in 473 posts Likes Given: 1,216 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 23 I've already got my camera pointed just about level, for that reason. I just think its that am used to a different perspective. With LOS you can see everything around the quad and it's relationship to it. With FPV, you don't know what's above, below, to the sides, or behind you. As long as you're moving forward that,s great, but if you're sliding sideways or backwards, where I fly, you're hosed (most of the time). With LOS, seeing everything around me, I'm better able to plan my course, with FPV, I don't have that ability. It'll come....may take a little longer then I would like, but...it WILL come. Thanks for your help Jimmy, it's appreciated. : ) "Damn the torpedoes!!! I don't try to hover, it just seems to happen when I am trying to control my speed...I back off on the throttle and ease off on the pitch to slow down and the next thing I know, I am drifting backwards or off to the side. I suspect I'll get the hang of it (I hope). Thanks for your input Oscar, valuable as always! : ) "Damn the torpedoes!!! Full speed ahead!!!" • |
