Tinyhawk III props PSA
#1
Not really a PSA .. more like a FWIW..
Now, I consider myself reasonably "rounded and informed" regarding FPV and its inner workings... But its SH*T like this that causes frustration to new (and old) pilots....
Today I visited my wifes class "club" of middleschoolers, Ive got them using the sim, and once they become somewhat proficient... they fly the tinyhawks...  Gotta say kids pick this up pretty fast...
I am (not sure how much longer) a big proponent of the EMAX RTF bundle for beginners. They are bound, on the correct VTX channel... charge the batteries, arm and your flying.   Yes, the controller isnt the greatest, but they take a serious beating from these kids, havnt had one fail, just bent switches and one broken gimbal (from a drop).  This was replaced with  a BETAfpv gimbal for $5...and they offer Halleffect gimbals for $23... Fitment is ALMOST perfect, and plugs gotta be soldered.. not a big deal
TANGENT sorry.. as I was saying, as the kids were flying / crashing, one lost a prop.  My wife hands me some new one I had just purchased...and they DONT FIT!!!! Apparenty, EMAX decided to change the tinyhawk III props EVER SO SLIGHTLY so they will NOT fit older tinyhawks... and they LOOK IDENTICAL .  Now if you go to EMAXs site in the description it does say they will not fit older tinyhawks... but RDQ doesnt... You  would think since they are different, it would be listed...
I know its BS but if your a new pilot, need props, and these are the only ones in stock... and you buy them thinking they will fit, because there is not size discrepancy (like 1mm vs 2mm).. you get them, and frustration ensues.

The Th1/2 props are named AVAN, the TH3 props are named AVIA. Would have said that's "fairly" clear if unhelpful when the pack has no other clear data or use stated.

However, most suppliers (quick search around more than ten) do not state the difference, most don't even state the central hole size in their data table, possibly as that's not the only critical factor with the unusual along the blade anti rotation slots. And 1.5mm is pretty unusual, you might reasonably think that would be highlighted.

There are even suppliers selling THREE and FOUR blade props listed as for TH without specific model info. This is the problem when a manufacturer uses a name across various models. I have even seen TH Freestyle props just labelled as TH, with no indication of 1,2,3 Race or Freestyle.

Incidentally, the Tinyhawk Race has props named AVAN but with the suffix BLUR, and again, these are not interchangable. Also Race is three blade 2", Freestyle is three blade 2.5".

The pack packaging for the Freestyle 2.5" ONLY states AVAN, as does the Race 2", there's NO clear identification, though my UK supplier does personally label his stock clearly as to which model its for................ but why should he have to!!

Hi Rob,

Ok, being curious, what are the differences between the older model props
and the newer model III props? Are the motors different? Surely, they are
since the props are different, but how? What is different?

I have just done some searching and can't tell the difference except that one
site did note that the III props would not fit older models, but didn't say why?

I do understand that the TinyHawk "pusher whoop" uses motors that are
somewhat different from standard motors. Plus, EMAX makes special props
for them that slide over the motor bell.

Well, I received a email back from RDQ… and I have fo say.. their CS is not what it once was.. they sent a “canned” email… “please send video/photos of the issue.. drop box .. ect”… I have received this exact in the past..
All I did was suggest they put in the product description “TH III props DO NOT fit older Tinyhawk motors “
F-book has been plastered with poor CS .. and I used to swear by RDQ .. I’m hoping they get things back in order .. as for the “th III” props.. I’ll have my wife bring them home.. and I’ll measure them out…

Hi Rob,

As you may have heard, RDQ has been bought by GetFPV. At this point, who knows
what changes will or will not be made. We will see how it all rolls out.

.. got another response .. after I sent a pic / screen shot from Emax’s site stating these props DO NOT fit older Tinyhawks in THEIR product description…
RDQs rep responded by saying ..if Emax has it listed we can make the change…
(Me screaming)… I notated this in the original email.. but they wanted a photo / video…
Ifly.. yeah.. we will have to see how things work out.. I now see how RDQ is carrying TBS …
