I knew you could do it. NICE WORK !! You are the FIRST to meet every single challenge requirement. Thanks iFly! This challenge has been a lot of fun and I learned a ton along the way! It was definitely made a lot easier by the helpful and friendly community here on forum! I have to admit it feels pretty good to be the first completion Looking forward to seeing what the other entries come up with! My personal challenge now is to make it out to 6km Posts: 1,489 Threads: 92 Likes Received: 574 in 468 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Nov 2020 Reputation: 27 amped_fpv 38min and 27km you are just a light breeze shy of 40min and 30km WOW Back in ancient times, 2019, anything over 20min sounded like heressy Anybody willing to buy 4-5 1404 motors and do a comparison? • Posts: 140 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 157 in 76 posts Likes Given: 91 Joined: Mar 2021 Reputation: 3 (26-May-2021, 03:48 PM)romangpro Wrote: amped_fpv 38min and 27km you are just a light breeze shy of 40min and 30km WOW Back in ancient times, 2019, anything over 20min sounded like heressy Anybody willing to buy 4-5 1404 motors and do a comparison? Hmmm... 40min/30km... now you've put a challenge into my head It was pretty windy the day I did that 38/27 flight, so I'm pretty confident I could do 40min if I flew a little slower... but, it'd be a challenge to squeeze another 3km into the same flight. Maybe with a fresh set of 18650's and the perfect conditions.... something to consider! • Posts: 5,907 Threads: 47 Likes Received: 2,786 in 2,248 posts Likes Given: 7,693 Joined: Jul 2019 Reputation: 97 (26-May-2021, 03:48 PM)romangpro Wrote: amped_fpv 38min and 27km you are just a light breeze shy of 40min and 30km WOW Back in ancient times, 2019, anything over 20min sounded like heressy Anybody willing to buy 4-5 1404 motors and do a comparison? Hi Roman, Back in ancient times, to get those kind of times you needed a 7 to 10 inch with huge batteries, the whole thing weighing a ton. The 5 inch guys were mostly balls-to-the-wall acro stunt flyers and racers. The goal here is hard and fast at the expense of fly time. Back then, if you didn't fly 5 inch or larger, you just weren't considered to be in the game. The 4 inch was considered a lost category with no place to fit. Yeah, tinywhoops are toys, right? Well, it seems all of that has changed a bit with the new FAA regulations. My Quest250-LR will initially be fitted with Hyperlite 1404.5 2750 Kv motors spinning 5 inch props. So, we will see if it works out. Presently, I am working on fabricating the frame which is a work in progress, but hopefully, I will have what I want soon so I can get that build together. • Posts: 140 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 157 in 76 posts Likes Given: 91 Joined: Mar 2021 Reputation: 3 My next endurance challenge is 30km/30min Simple math... Need to average 60km/h! Lets see what it can do. I wonder whether you could do 30km with pre-warmed batteries? V-22 - I agree, it would probably help. Honestly, this 3S pack isn't exactly fresh either... I made it out of the cells I used in the Nano Long Range and they were often drained down until they were exhausted. So ya, with the right speed, warmer temps and a fresh 18650 pack, I think it's doable. The problem is it's getting harder and harder to stay motivated for these really long flights of circles around a park! LOL. Maybe next time I feel motivated I'll just throw it in angle mode and try some super slow flying/hovering just to see what kind of max hang time I can get. Guess I'll have to try some afternoon flights! How do you guys warm up your batteries? And what's a good starting temp? • Posts: 6,113 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,287 in 1,834 posts Likes Given: 4,737 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 04-Jun-2021, 10:15 PM (This post was last modified: 04-Jun-2021, 10:19 PM by hugnosed_bat.) i use some pet bottles filled with water, described inhere; https://intofpv.com/t-performance-increasement-for-free i use about 45degrees hot water. depending on the outside temps, i would choose a higher temp probably up to 55. anyway it will help :-) i couldnt fly my 2inch power micros in winter, the batteries doesnt perform at all. i preheat ghem and cover the battery with some packing material. its like day and night! un such small drained packs, from unflyable at all to okish enjoyable. cover your battery could improve it either, it will be much more healty as the tempdifference between the cells will be decreased inflight. while cold temps is the enemy of the battery it provides more uplift from the rotors :-) |
