So, the only way to see a firmware update from this "ethical prophets" is to release 3rd party products that compete with official caddx/DJI ones ? Well, as long as they will provide improved features along with making other cams useless... let's see what happen. Otherwise it's simple... I will not update my devices...

The main problem will come if you break a camera and need a new one where those new cameras only work with Air Units and Vistas that have the updated firmware installed on them. I also wouldn't put it past DJI to remove all the older firmware from the DJI Assistant 2 so you can then only install the newer firmware versions which lock out 3rd party cameras. They have a history of having already done that before, and there is no way that I know of to get an offline copy of the older firmware versions or a tool other than the DJI Assistant 2 software to actually install firmware.

I guess we will just have to wait and see if they actually carry out this new threat. This is unfortunately one of the the biggest risks of investing in closed source systems.

So once you break the "incompatible" camera say you get a new one that needs the new firmware which blocks the old camera you no longer have, how exactly is that a problem? So much drama about nothing...

The problem is that you then risk potentially locking the Air Unit / Vista to licensed only cameras from that point onwards giving you no alternative options in the future but to use "licensed" cameras with that Air Unit / Vista. This is assuming of course that DJI also removes older firmware versions and/or prevents firmware rollbacks like they have done on some of their other products.

Yes this hobby is full of drama, but it's also full of DJI fan boys and shills who can't bear to hear anything negative said about their beloved manufacturer.

Of course this is currently just speculation so all we can do is to wait it out and see what unfolds, if anything. Hopefully it is all just hot air from Caddx / DJI that will blow over and fizzle out to nothing.

Any idea how encryption will affect latency?

There's no low latency mode on these cameras anyway.

The Caddx Nebula Pro camera is like hen's teeth at the moment. You just can't seem to get them anywhere either with Vista or just the camera on it's own. One UK supplier had some Caddx Vista with Nebula Pro units in stock yesterday but as soon as word got out they were sold out immediately. So you are also up against hundreds of other people also looking to purchase some. Your best bet is to place a pre-order if anyone is taking them so you at least get yourself in the queue because as soon as they do come back into stock again they are going to be sold out again immediately until the supply chain can catch up, which could take more than just a couple of months.

Your other option is to buy a complete new Caddx Air Unit (which comes with a re-cased Nebula Pro) because those seem to be in stock in quite a lot of places. Then just replace the complete Air Unit / camera on your quad with a new Caddx Air Unit and keep your other Air Unit as a spare until you can get a Nebula Pro camera for it.

Below is Gal Kremer's recent comparison video of the Caddx Nebula Pro against the RunCam MIPI. You need to watch it in 4K to get the best quality viewing experience...

is it true?
if so then this nebula pro can record 1080p 60fps on onboard sc like original dji camera?
i thought that nebula pro it can only 720p and cadxx air unit can 1080p as in specyfication ?

Apparently so, according to some people who have looked at the insides of both.

I don't know about the capabilities of the Nebula Pro regarding recording in 1080p. Caddx definitely market it specifically as a 720p camera so it's possible that the output just gets upscaled to 1080p when recorded to the Air Unit, or that the recording to the Air Unit with a Caddx camera connected just ends up as a 720p recording. I haven't seen anyone test or confirm what the results of doing that are.

i think that upscaling would kill air unit procrsor on the fly
so i think they are diferent or nebula pro is somehow locked on lower resolution if so
i will hae to dog in to that because i like alot this 1080p from air unit - i do not use any gopro at all
