New DJI Goggles 3 Coming Soon [Leaked Images]
#1
Below is what appears to be the first leaked image of the new DJI Goggles 3 (or whatever DJI decide to name them). On the left are the DJI Goggles 2 with the DJI Goggles 3 on the right.

As per the already previously leaked information they look almost identical to the DJI Goggles 2 but the new goggles have 2 cameras on the front for pass-through image so you can see your surroundings without having to lift the goggles from your face. Maybe DJI will also implement some kind of augmented reality using those cameras but no-one other than the beta testers actually know that yet. It's not clear what that thing is on the top of the goggles, but it was originally believed to be some kind of antenna. However, in the photo the straps appear to be attached to it, unless that is just an optical illusion due to the angle of the photo. It's quite possible that it's to allow you to flip the goggles up with them still being strapped to your head like with the old DJI Goggles Racing Edition. I guess we will have to wait for more information about that. There is a built in battery on the back of the strap just like on the DJI Goggles Integra. These new goggles will be getting released along with the new DJI Avata 2 drone which is said to be in about 2 or 3 months time.

There is no more information on them as of yet but if any surfaces I will add it to this thread.

EDIT #1: This is also a leaked image of the DJI Avata 2. I had my suspicions when I first saw it because it looks like a bad photoshop so I didn't bother posting it, but it's since been confirmed by a reputable source who has seen one that this is actually the real deal. Whoever originally posted that photo was probably just trying to hide what else was in shot but they clearly aren't very good at photo editing.

EDIT #2: Below is the original unedited photo that the above image of the Avata 2 came from...

In the leaked photo the head strap appears to attach to either side of it, so it might be for the same kind of "flip-up" feature like the old DJI Goggles Racing Edition had (see page 6 of the user manual linked to below).

Hmm, I guess that's how they solved the problem that the DJI Goggles won't push on the nose anymore. But this will cause other problems, the distance of the eye balls to the lenses will not always be the same, it will make the image blurry, this does not seem like a good solution to me. This should probably precede the needs of the average Joe.

I agree. It looks like a bad choice of head fitment design IMO. Plus, unless you have a flat oriental shape face then these are going to end up with a whole load more light leaks on the sides because while you can fit thicker foam to fill those gaps, you aren't going to be able to use the straps to pull the sides of the actual goggles tight to your face. If these really do have a flip-up design I hope that DJI have provided an option to remove that mechanism and allow the straps to be connected to the sides of the goggles in the traditional way. If they don't then I can't see how these new goggles are going to work for western shape faces (even with thicker foam) because they are the same design as the DJI Goggles 2 and we all know how badly those fit western faces.

Yes, I agree, and also that it will be a whole lot bulkier and even though DJI usually makes quality HW, the joint will be the first thing to break.
And again I feel like someone who slanders everything, but that's probably fate. I don't know, I don't understand why they make such things, their development seems to me like we thought of something, we'll try it, we'll see how it turns out ...

Hope the specs on the goggles are a decent upgrade.

As for Avata 2, the shape seems to have matured a bit. It looks like it has bigger propellers and the picture seems to use non-proprietary propellers which is good. And it is not a pusher! As a result of the larger span, the center of gravity will also be lower, so overall it will fly noticeably better. It has new sensors on the rear, as far as I can see, they can also be expected on the front. But it will still be a screamer, because it will be heavier than the original Avata and the propellers will have to try to carry it. In any case, it looks like Avata 2 will be better than the original Avata. No way sub250, so flying her only outside civilization. So this is a good route, but I definitely won't buy it, I'm not the target audience.

Edit: It seems that what I thought were sensors are probably just screws. Ian claimed that the Avata 2 is slightly lighter than the Avata, I don't want to believe that when the flight time is supposed to be up to 20 minutes.

Something to be aware of is that these new goggles reportedly only have a firmware mode that supports the O3 system and not the first generation of DJI Air Units and Caddx Vista / RunCam Link Ait Units. It's possible that DJI will release firmware at a later date to support the older units but there is no guarantee of that and DJI do have a habit of eventually dropping support for older hardware, so it wouldn't surprise me if these new goggles will only ever have support for O3 and later Air Unit hardware. Just keep that in mind before you rush to sell your current set of DJI Goggles 2 or DJI Goggles Integra prior to the DJI Goggles 3 getting released.

As for the new Avata 2, I think we can safely say that it's definitely not going to be a sub-250g drone, but I don't think DJI are going after that particular market. It will have Remote ID already built into it so that won't be a problem for people in counties where Remote ID has already been enforced.

The problem is not whether Avata has RID, the problem is that something that is not sub250g has to be flown outside of civilization. And that certainly doesn't match the idea of what the average Joe thinks. He thinks that he can take it anywhere and fly ... EASA rules are very strict in this regard. And we have another limit of 900g, for heavier drones there are even stricter rules. But that doesn't belong here.

I understand the target audience for these new glasses:

Here's another leaked image of the DJI Goggles 3 with a slightly better view showing the straps attaching to that top part. You can also see a clearer definition of what definitely looks to be a hinge assembly between that top part and the goggles, so I'm sure these are actually designed to flip up.
