If I don't like what I get with the 5 inch props, I will back down to 4 inch props. That IS the beauty of using a frame for 1 prop size larger. The Flywoo FC from RDQ has just arrived today, so I can get on with the build. Stay tuned .... I just had a lot going on and still collecting things for this build. Guess I am following Snow for long build time. Ha, Ha. Anyway...now I am getting back to it. I have received fiberglass sheets and have been redesigning the frame...will be cutting fiberglass soon. I am anxious to see how the weight compares to carbon fiber. Since a unibody frame is harder for me to fabricate, I am going with a multi-part frame; separate arms and central fuselage plates. An advantage to a multi-part frame is that I can swap arms or central plates and get different configurations. I am also working on a holder for 18650 cells that somehow will incorporate into the frame. I have went through a variety of designs. I tried to incorporate the 18650 holder, but nothing seemed to work out the way that I wanted. So...I ditched the idea of an incorporated holder and worked to simplify the design. Keep in mind that I don't have precision cutting devices so this is all fabricated with hand tools. Pictures added to Post #1 Here is a picture of the frame. 2021-06-13 Edit: At 32.5 grams, the frame is little heavier than I wanted, but I decided to leave the arms wide for strength rather than cut them down or skeletonize them. The arms are also long enough to accommodate 5 inch props. I could probably shave off several grams from these arms; plus, a set of 4 inch arms will be lighter; I will likely cut new arms which will be shorter and I might cut down the width a little, too; if I decide to go with 4 inch props. Now, the actual build begins.... stay tuned... |
