Pretty-1 (40mm Open Prop)
#1
2022-12-11          Pretty-1         Build # 18     Last Post   My Builds

This build is based on the Diatone Roma F1 frame for 40mm props that was
custom hydro-dipped and donated by LemonyLeprosy THANK YOU.

Having looked at this frame, I think that a stack might work better than a whoop format AIO FC.
I will take a look through my parts bin and see if I have anything that might work; otherwise
I will be looking for a suitable stack solution. Yeah, 2S-3S should be about right.
First challenge...Find an FC stack or AIO in 20x20 or maybe 16x16 square orientation.

I have a new set of 1102 8000 Kv motors for this build that will also handle 2S-3S. Ever heard of
ZHIPAIJI "MiToot" motors?? Me neither. Got them on AMAZON, but hey, they are what I was
looking for and not finding at my normal first line vendors. Go figure.

Wonder how a little bird like this will fly on 3S...Hmmmm ??

Yeah, this should have 40mm props, but....wonder if I can get 2 inch props on it...Hmmmm!!

Normally, I could care less about how a quad looks, BUT...the frame is so darn PRETTY
that I am going to try to keep things color coordinated. The motors are RED and should go
nicely with the color scheme. Maybe a clear Lexan top deck plate.

Let's see what else I can find... Popcorn

Diatone makes a nice 20x20 35A AIO "stack" if you can find it. I have one in my Roma F4. Might be a bit too heavy for this though...

Woooow, psychadelic color. Looooving it.
Very nice gift from Lemony. Heart
Makes me rethink all my builds....

ps have a flywoo 16x16 35a f405 on the way for an explorer frame build i am working on as nothing elses fitted when researching. That could work for you as well. They also have one with less amp rating.  Speedybee also has one (20x20) that could work for you sizewise. For me size was good but it was missing just one uart but for your build 3 uarts should be fine.

I can’t wait to see what you do with this one. Big Grin
Never hear of “MiToot” before, but, it’s pretty hard to screw up a motor.

There’s not a lot of clearance between the rear standoff and the camera cage, I couldn’t find a 20x20 AIO that would fit.
You’d have to measure, but it’s possible that a JHEMCU GHF13AIO would fit- but it’s got 16x16 mounting holes so you’d have to make an adapter:
https://pyrodrone.com/products/jhemcu-gh...shless-esc
It’s 2s to 4s, 13a. I’ve got one of these in my SubAtomic. I’m a bit hesitant to recommend JHEMCU these days though.
It’s significantly cheaper direct from China:
https://m.aliexpress.us/item/32568043652..._shipto=US
But if you’re gonna have to make an adapter anyway, that Flywoo one fpvapnea listed above might be a better option.

If you can find it in stock somewhere, the 20x20 DarwinFPV stack below might work well. DarwinFPV has good customer support if you run into an issue. It’s a 2s to 6s 30a stack:
https://darwinfpv.com/products/darwinfpv...5231492271

Both of those are f411, so only 2 uarts, but, I’m assuming that’ll be enough for this baby bird?

That little 16x16 Flywoo stack actually sounds pretty awesome, the little bugger even has a barometer and black box.

Edit- in the Amazon description for those mitoot motors it says the brand is Racerstar. If this is the case and “mitoot” just rebranded them, I’ve used a couple different sets of Racerstar motors and they’ve worked well.

Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

" it’s pretty hard to screw up a motor "

You'd think, yes, but a few have managed it, notably DYS, a fairly new name back then, though at the same time they also produced the best 120-150 frame motor, though it was rated 1-2S and everyone and his dog ran it on 3S. None of mine have ever failed or been any issue at all, and I have five quads with them.

At that time GYS were producing dogs, and early EMax were not much better on SOME in their range.
Point being, any established maker name is not immune to trip up.

I have had/have Racerstar motors from brushed tiny whoop through to 5" sized brushless. They have been reliable and smooth with no bearing issues, but are NOT for their size very powerful, certainly not in the 3" to 5" quad sizes. They are quite current economic though, good for cruisers.

Currently I much prefer the EMax ECO range for general freestyle use, as like for like thay are giving me 1-2 mins extra flight time when swapped onto existing quads.

Ahh yes dys, thise guys and ldarc made some hit and miss micro motors. A batch of dys1106 motors just smoked first time for me. Yet here is lemony flying his subatomic with them and they seem fine. Hit and miss.

Nice project ifly, colourful frame thats for sure!

I’ve actually got some old Eachine 1102 on that subatomic. I don’t think I have any experience with dys motors- I think I might have an old set on my shelf, but I don’t think I’ve tried them. Don’t remember the size, I just remember that they are ridiculously heavy for whatever size they are.

Thanks for the heads up about their micro motors though, I think I’ll avoid them in the future.

I was wrong, apparently a manufacturer most definitely can screw up a motor.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the replies and comments.

I did get the 1102 8000 kv motors trying to get a nice efficient set for my style of

cruising which, as most of you know, is all ANGLE mode and No ACRO stunts.
That is just me  Tongue

I like the frame and the colors. Lemony did an EXCELLENT paint job on that plate.
I am going to work to show off the frame as much as possible, try to coordinate the
colors, and make it look as good as I can.
Thank You Lemony.  Thumbs Up High Five

You know, this is a pretty small frame. I am a little surprised that Diatone only drilled
holes for a 20x20 pattern. There is space on the frame to drill the 16x16 mount pattern
without the need for an adapter plate. On the one hand I hate to drill into it, however,
I gotta do what works. Interestingly enough, it looks like 2 inch props might fit in a
normal configuration with a 16x16 stack or AIO. Then there is always the pusher option
which I am really giving some serious thought to. In this configuration, it looks like there
is space for the standoff column landing gear even with 2 inch props. Also, you will be
able to see more of that paint job as a pusher.

The Baby Naz is really nice as a pusher and that is how it will stay. That build has been
a nice relude to this build and to building pushers in general. The biggest issue with a
pusher is the landing gear, but it is workable.

Looking at the center of that frame i would go for an adapter plate (either carbon fiber , which by coincidence i just got in the mail from alieexpress after some parts buying spree) or tpu. Drilling might weaken the 2 core struts unnecessary.

It’s designed for 1.6” with those thick prop guards, so without them, I think 2” might just fit. Maybe. Smile

For a 20x20 to 16x16 adapter, I can print one of these in lava orange tpu and drop it in the mail for you if you’d like:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2446199

I think I’ve also got some transparent red tpu. It doesn’t print as cleanly as the orange, but I can give it a go.

Hi Lemony,

I don't think that I am keen on the orange or the transparent red for this one.
Maybe I will just cut a piece of clear plastic; cheap and easy to work with, plus
weighs next to nothing if I use the lighter stuff.

Hi Fpvapnea,

Yep, you can count on it. I will likely try the 40mm props first since that is the
specs for the frame and will serve as a baseline. By making it a pusher, it is
just a matter of swapping props.

Hello everyone,

Well, I have not found a suitable "stack" for the Pretty-1 - SO - I think that I will use the
electronics from the Baby Naz. Hey, everything is set up and ready to go. I just need to
make a plate and install them.

I am also looking at props. I was thinking 2 inch, however, I think that I might be able to
get 2.5 inch props on that puppy. Hmmm.

I will soon be getting this bird together.

I think this will be a pusher. I am working on the landing gear.
