oh what to do

Hello all, great forum you guys got going here. A little background about me I was into FPV about 5 years ago just started back up have a few quads running on FrSky protocol on a Taranis X Lite, straight d16 shit homie not even accst. Realizing how abysmal my protocol was I ordered a happymodel e24 ELRS module for my x lite, seems like ELRS is the future but I'm sticking with analog video for now. Well I ordered the module and some elrs 2.4 receivers but as I was rummaging through my massive amount of old drone shit I found an R9M lite module with a r9 rx and was thinking is it even worth it to run the r9 or just wait for the ELRS module? This is the one I ordered:

I'm leaning toward just waiting for it but the range on the x lite with the xm+ receivers is just horrible. Any help would be much appreciated, great to be flying again!

R9? Not worth the effort IMO!

Be patient!   Big Grin Big Grin

I wouldn't bother running the R9 gear using the native FrSky protocol on it. If you are desperate and can't wait for the ExpressLRS gear to arrive, you can have a go at flashing ELRS firmware to the R9 hardware and convert it to ExpressLRS. See the following links for details...

Sorry to burst your bubble but all the old FrSky V, D and X series are ACCST. So your D16 is ACCST.

If you can get the R9M Lite module and your R9 rx bind together and working you can use them.  Just realize they are running on 900 MHz and not 2.4GHz. The antenna on the R9 receiver is pretty big to fit in a quad.

You can flash ExpressLRS onto your R9M Lite module. I flashed ExpressLRS onto my R9M 2019 module since I couldn't find any FrSky 900 MHz receivers to bind. However you will need to order some 900 MHz ExpressLRS receivers.

The XM+ is not the best receiver. You have issue at long range and issue when the transmitter is right next to the receiver. I gave mine all away.

Didn't really burst my bubble but I appreciate the information. Why was everyone flashing their xm+'s to new ACCST firmware then? Guesss it doesn't matter now anyway I'm just going to wait for the module. SeismicCWaVE, your last sentence says everything I need to know haha. What to do with all these RX's, I have two X Lites one with ELRS and one with FrSky for whoops, I guess.

Now all I have to do is wait.

Thanks for the information and saving me the hassle, much appreciated.

I assume you're talking about the ACCST 2.x.x firmware. The bottom line is that FrSky duped everyone into believing that the version 2.x.x firmware had some critical changes in that people needed to install, when the reality was that it was all just a smoke and mirrors operation to try and force everyone to update to a newer version which then locked other 3rd party vendors out of making compatible FrSky receivers. In the end they shot themselves in the foot with their tomfoolery because virtually all FPV pilots jumped ship to other better systems like TBS Crossfire, ImmersionRC Ghost, and the now most popular option of ExpressLRS. You can read a whole discussion on the FrSky firmware drama at the link below...

FrSky ACCST had two versions. V1 and V2. Their ACCST V1 had an issue called the uncommanded servo movement. For people that flew with servos the elevator servo will random kick into full down and crash the plane. I am not sure if the serial receiver like the XM+ has the same issue or not. Regardless since then FrSky came out with the ACCST V2 firmware that is supposed to fix the USM problem. Then ACCST V1 and V2 are not compatible so the transmitter and receiver both have to have either V1 or V2. Then Mike Blanchard and Wayne from Aloft Hobbies came up with a different software called the UNI. That made them more compatible but those are mainly for the PWM receivers.

[Image: RAXEMSzl.jpeg]Thanks for the clarification. Like SnowLeopardFPV mentioned from an outsider's perspective, it was like FrSky was adding a whole new protocol, I wasn't building/flying at the time but remember all this hype about ACCST and what an improvement it was going to be. Funny in the end it was all marketing, typical capitalist bs. Happy I missed all that drama honestly.

On a super sweet note, I had a sparm arm set for this  nova frame so shes back up and running. I bought the frame on amazon and that was like it's selling point that the arms were easily replaceable and I completely forgot about it until I went searching for a new frame. Took a quick pic to show my favorite quad, 3 inch HGLRC XJB. It's so good they  still sell it 5 years later:

https://www.myfpvstore.com/ready-to-fly-...drone-pnp/

It can run 4s and has the feeling of a bigger quad but still light enough to take 3 forty foot falls into trees today and only suffer some broken props, pretty tempted to get the v2 TBH lol.

Sorry not sure why my images are being placed in random spots of my response.

On another note, when my FC powers up via the USB port but not when the battery is inserted it means my ESC is fried right?

Or a bad battery cable connection.

When using Imgur, make sure you place your cursor in the post where you want the image to be inserted. If the image ends up in the wrong place just select text that is in the start and end "img" tags including the leading and trailing square brackets (see the example text below) and cut it to the clipboard, then paste it back into the location in the post where you want the image to appear.

It's so refreshing to see a forum full of helpful and non condescending people. I also ride motorcycles and recently bought a BMWS1000RR and that forum rips your head off even if you asked opinion based questions or god forbid you ddint' read the manual front to back (which I did once I bought one). Sometimes people have questions and honestly, the search functions of most forums leave much to be desired. I want to thank you all for being so welcoming and helpful.

Hi NYCDiesel,

YES, this is absolutely the BEST forum that I have ever been associated with
regardless of subject matter. The members are Super, very knowledgeable,
and very helpful.

A big "THANK YOU" to Oscar and all of the Great members.

You know, I am still using FrSky products, specifically, the XM+ receivers with
the older V1 (I think) firmware. For the type of flying that I do, they work just
fine. Since I don't fly long range, they just seem to work for me. I am also
very cautious about where I fly (for an assortment of reasons). For now, I
will continue to use them. I also have some R9 gear which I was using until
I stopped working on long distance flights. Yeah, it all worked for me. So far,
I have not had any issues or "failsafes" with any of the FrSky gear. Just me,
I guess.

Later iFly   High Five
