***BEWARE*** FrSky ACCST D16 2.x.x Firmware
#1
***** EDIT (23rd April 2020): Please see the newly added WARNING at the bottom of this post. *****

It looks like FrSky are battening down the hatches even more in order to try and lock out their competitor's products.

They have just released a new 2.x.x version of the ACCST D16 firmware for all their receivers and also for the XJT module. If you flash the 2.x.x version of the ACCST firmware to any receivers then you will also need to flash the corresponding 2.x.x firmware version to the internal XJT module on your transmitter as well, otherwise they won't work with each other. The trap in doing this however is that your XJT module will then no longer communicate with the original (reverse engineered) ACCST protocol used by 3rd party receivers, so if you are using any of those then don't update to the 2.x.x firmware on any of your equipment.

I honesty don't know what to think anymore. It seems that FrSky are intent on nailing their own coffin lid shut even more than they've already done with the new ACCESS protocol stuff. First that, now this. That new RadioMaster TX16S can't come to market soon enough.

Details of the new FrSky ACCST D16 2.x.x firmware are at the link below...

FrSky Wrote:ACCST D16 2.X.X – This upgrade is designed to enhance the reliability and performance of radio transmission in all external conditions. It is strongly recommended that all FCC/LBT users update all their equipment to version 2.X.X. This includes all radios, RF modules and receivers.

We are grateful to you all for the constant support. Especially thank those who reported the issue, provided the information, and assisted with many tests.

Notes:
  1. Fixed the channel output error (uncontrolled servo movements) under certain conditions.
  2. Strengthened correction and verification capability.
* Please update the firmware of all your radios, RF modules and receivers accordingly.

* Some Taranis X9D may have the compatibility issue, we do not recommend users to update this transmitter to the 2.X.X version.

******************** WARNING *********************
**************************************************

New information has just come to light that the v2.1.0 release of the ACCST 2.x.x firmware appears to be bricking R-XSR receivers. Confirmation of this is in the post linked to below and the posts preceding that one...

https://intofpv.com/t-f4-succex-e-f405-r...0#pid90400

So just to re-iterate advice already given, stay well away from any of the ACCST-2.x.x firmware and don't install anything past the last release of the pre-2.x.x firmware on any FrSky receivers or transmitters.

I see more binding problems on the forum coming. Frsky is putting the nail on it's own coffin.

If they have no proof of this then it's really just for them to lock their systems. I see no real benefict of upgrading to that firmware if there's no real evidence of doing it.

I don't think anyone saw this coming so we've been completely blindsided.

When ACCESS appeared on the scene, people started getting worried about the ACCST receivers getting phased out and in response, an FrSky representative on RCG reassured people that they wouldn't be discontinuing the existing ACCST receivers any time soon. But of course, they didn't promise that they wouldn't cripple or lock down those older generation of receivers.

First it was an inconvenient mess with all the different firmwares, now it's just become a complete and utter car crash. FrSky used to be the pinnacle of the RC multirotor hobby world. Now they've just become a laughing stock.

The two reasons they gave for the firmware update is complete BS. It's just to try and coerce and dupe people into installing the locked down firmware. We need to actively discourage any members from installing this new firmware on any of their FrSky equipment.

Yikes.

I've got to admit, I've never updated the firmware for any of the RXs, or the TX but it was something I was probably going to do sooner or later. Thanks for the warning.

Time to download the n-1 version of the firmware off the FrSky site before that goes mysteriously missing too!

The ground is for dead people.

My friend also has his say (mini rant) on the matter Big Grin It seems that he has the same views as I expressed...DO NOT update any of your equipment to the new ACCST D16 2.x.x firmware under any circumstances...

This is made worse by the fact that most of their OEM receivers that you buy now come with ACCESS firmware so you HAVE to flash them to use with your ACCST radio making this even more of a problem as they may start to stop having the older ones available for download.

Tonight I will collect all of their RX and TX firmware and host it up on my webserver in expectation for this to happen. Anyone willing to help me organise it and describe it the help would be appreciated.

I just got home from a long trip and was thinking about starting to update my gear tonight. Now that I saw this thread I won't.  I'm now seriously thinking about spending the big bucks and making the leap to SOB (Jeti?).   Angry

I have a few Europe-based VPSes if you want mirrors.

I've just hoovered up all the non-2020 firmware downloads for the QX7, R-XSR and XM+.

Sounds like a good idea to achieve all these firmwares.

Sweet thanks.

I'll get the files sorted first and then if we get too much traffic I'll ad a EU option with your VPS.

I'm at work now so I'll sort it out when I get home Big Grin

I will use the TBS trade in program. I'm a bit tired and see no point in keeping with Frsky.

I'll still use my QX7 until I get another viable radio, but will trade ASAP my R9M module and receivers.

Trappy must be rubbing his hands in glee at how FrSky have dug their own grave and how they just continue to dig it even deeper. I bet sales for TBS are better than they've ever been, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they've had to scale up manufacturing of their Crossfire modules and receivers to keep up with extra demand. Everyone I can see in the FPV community seems to be jumping ship from FrSky products across to TBS and Jumper, yet FrSky still don't seem to grasp the fact that they are slowly killing themselves as a company.

Here it is my take at them.

Soon I'll have a FrSky Taranis QX7 for sale.

Ok so before reading any of this I went full force and loaded up all my rx and my qx7s with this horrible firmware. Now I've switched everything back but the tx's internal module. Im not to sure what I'm doing, so could someone please be my hero and list the steps us idiots need to do to load the older fw onto a taranis? It's not letting me load the older file, but I can write the latest.
As a side note, Rssi is horrible, at least testing using 2 different xm+ receivers.
