Edit Reason: Amended title. ) News from a fairly reputable source has indicated that DJI are preparing to release their own FPV drone. I know nothing more than that yet but if I do hear anything I will post it back here. If it turns out to be true then this could be the first stab by a manufacturer at releasing an FAA certified off-the-shelf FPV quad that would satisfy any future Remote ID regulations, especially in the US. This will not be good. This will be all overpriced components for which we will have little to no choice in substituting. This is why I resent so much the encumbant FPV companies like Fat Shark for so completely dropping the ball on HD. Nevermind a system that can best DJI. That would be expecting too much. But ZERO competing systems?? Really??? I suspect if the manchildnerds that run these companies spent more time on r&d and less time with their high school bickering and drama, we would not be in this position. Who knows. Maybe there'll be a white knight company out there that's run by actual adults that will turn things around for FPV ... I would *love* to see Timecop pop out of nowhere ... "here your HD bitches ... I call it NMG-HD for Not Moth Goggles HD. It's a module, signal deteriorates like analog, near analog latency, HD DVR support ... and it comes with a goddamn power button. You want support? That's one trillion yen you idiots. Kai bye." lolllll Posts: 1,314 Threads: 50 Likes Received: 833 in 505 posts Likes Given: 372 Joined: Jul 2018 Reputation: 51 DJI tried to release a racing drone in 2017, and it was a bit pants. The frame had a crazy amount of flex. The motors were amp-crazy and didn't justify it. The props mounts were proprietary. The ESC could only do Oneshot 125. Rotor Riot did a piece on it. I suspect there was money behind it, since they seemed a little reluctant to mention the short-comings. Just kinda rushed them out at the end. The ground is for dead people. And most didn't think any small company could pull it off. And so far, this seems to be true. I think the only way a company like Fatshark can do this is to partner up with a company that has some sort of development technology already. And then it is a matter of squeezing it into a goggles and VTX. Although Fatshark looks like a large company, it is not. R&D is expensive. I think someone like TBS might be able to pull it off. I am hopeful for the underdog too. But given the history of drone developed by DJI and all the competition that has came along, there is nothing that has bested DJI. Ronin, I forsee you and I looking like bugs in the future. Can you imagine what sort of nerd power can be brought to bear by a Fat Shark X ImmersionRC X TBS X Orqa collaboration to bring a proper FPV ecosystem to the market???? But instead you have bickering; who-can-piss-further contests. (27-Jul-2020, 07:33 PM)voodoo614 Wrote: Ronin, I forsee you and I looking like bugs in the future. LOLLLLL it took a while for that one to sink in. Brother, if there was a proper sale (not a global group buy) tomorrow, you can call me "mothman" today. I am thinking low $600 for experience combo would make me jump in. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 27-Jul-2020, 11:18 PM (This post was last modified: 27-Jul-2020, 11:18 PM by the.ronin.) That sounds pretty compelling to me. I'm actually thinking of buying the goggle and one air unit separately for the best prices I can. For the goggle, well below 500 would be compelling. Air unit I can swing at less of a discount. Just one the one goggle and the one air unit for now. There is a place on the eastcoast that is supposedly a ceritfied DJI dealer selling a "refurbished" goggle for mid 400s. Also Heli Direct is one of the few places I know of that actually has goggles in stock ... and has coupon codes often. I can find a 10% one but looking for a bigger one lol. • Posts: 12,098 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 Should have purchase the world wide mass buy. I should have checked whether my education discount applied on top of the last sales. Oh well, too late. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 No I think it was a good move to hold off on that. None of the Banggood buyers did yet as far as I know. Posts: 359 Threads: 14 Likes Received: 163 in 126 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Jul 2020 Reputation: 12 Mine are getting delivered today. The other problem for Fatshark and other potential competitors is that DJI likely has patents on the key technologies. And the way it works with patents, valid or not, is that the big company wins. The smaller companies simply can't afford to fight as long as the big company can. • Posts: 21,397 Threads: 593 Likes Received: 9,029 in 6,683 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 795 08-Aug-2020, 02:02 AM (This post was last modified: 22-Nov-2020, 01:31 AM by SnowLeopardFPV.
