I'm noob. Started with Tinyhawk Freestyle last year and lost it.

Now I got bunch of lipos, basic goggles and basic remote from Emax.

Need help and advice for budget quad to finish learning.

Hope to find help or even seller of some used one which will work with stuff I already got.

Thnx.

Welcome to intoFPV!

What transmitter do you have? You’ll want to make sure you get a bind and fly that will work with its protocol.
Dangerous operations.

To help narrow down recommendations:
Are you looking to get a smaller budget quad for indoor flying, something smaller that can do indoor and outdoor with low wind flying, or something strictly outdoor?

Will you be flying around people?
Dangerous operations.

Outdoor only. Remote places, no people.

Depending on what size your looking for, for budget, I’d suggest one of these:

DarwinFPV Baby Ape Pro v2 (make sure you get the r81 receiver version to work with your transmitter). This is a 3”. It’s motors are a little fragile:

DarwinFPV Darwin240 Johnny 5 (once again, get the r81 receiver version). This is a 5”:

There are some other budget quads available from other manufacturers, but I think DarwinFPV gives you the most for your money. They also make a 7”, but that’s pretty big for a beginner.
Dangerous operations.

That is great. Thank U. I was looking at this one.

Is it OK to change connectors of my all batteries from ph2.0 to xt30? Got bunch of 1S 450-850 and will need to arrange those some way. I can solder and know enough to do it. Question is if make them into 3S by arranging 3x1S into 3S or maybe make double 1S and make such a pair into less powerful but more endure 4x1S block mimicking 2S?

I’d advise against it. If you choose to:

Connecting two batteries in parallel will keep the voltage the same and double the mah, connecting two batteries in series will keep the mah the same and double the voltage, so keep that in mind.

If you’re going to permanently connect them together, you will also need to add a balance lead so that you can properly balance charge them.

It’ll add additional weight, but it might be easier to just make an adapter with an xt30 connector on one side, and multiple ph2.0 connectors on the other side, so that you can remove and charge each battery individually.

It’d also be best to use batteries of the same age/condition/capacity/manufacturer.

None of that is ideal, I’d recommend buying some new batteries of the appropriate capacity and cell count. Lipos are fire hazards and dangerous, so once again, I’d suggest just purchasing appropriate batteries.

If you do choose to change connectors and whatnot, only cut one wire at a time, then solder and shield it prior to cutting another, and make sure that you don’t overheat the battery.
Dangerous operations.

Great advice. My lipos are all the same age and same brand. Nearly new. Great idea to use connector/adapter instead rigid soldering, sounds very wise.

Question: if Darvin Ape is listed as 2S-3S, do You recommend for slow, practice fly, keep 2S or build 3S connector?

I would stick with 2s while you’re learning.

Hi CafCaf,

Is the weight of the craft a consideration?

It's Darwin Baby Ape, but "old", non "pro V2". Dunno it's worth saving 10-15 $ and get outdated one.
