Same here…the 1w vtx isn’t exactly in stock in some places also.. I’m 90% going on the hd zero direction.. but gonna wait to see EXACLY what surfaces this fall before I decide on a protocol and new goggles

DefianceRC has em in stock. Been eyeing it for my rock crawler RC buggy lol.

I haven't completely written off the Walksnail system in case they come out with a lighter VTX. That's really about the only thing keeping me on HDZero.

The following update for the HDZero goggles was posted by Carl earlier today.

Carl Zhou Wrote:HDZero Goggle Status Update:

We are nearing the final stages of development. Many final touches have been determined. I have chosen some accessory parts based on user recommendations, and I think you'll like them:
  • Beta goggle ready to try at August 27th HDZero Team Race event (https://www.multigp.com/races/view/?race...-Team-Race)
  • Adding 1080p30 and 540p90 camera options;
  • PCB assembly is complete and under testing and development
  • End to end video is working (Camera -> VTX -> Goggle internal VRX -> Goggle OLED display (and HDMI output)
  • Head strap chosen (see picture)
  • Power cables chosen (see picture)
  • Goggle carrying bag chosen (see picture)
  • Faceplate foam chosen (see picture)
  • Curved and flat faceplates are included (see picture)
The goggle will be injection molded and painted, the above pictures were taken from 3D Printed shell though.

Thanks,
Carl

… I’m all for it!! HOWEVER, is it me or is HD-zero components not being available? The 1w vtx seems to be on “back order” at most suppliers except for “smaller” stores.
And the whole “chip shortage”.. walksnail had no issues “shipping” components out and delivered.

Not just you. But I suspect its a combination of supply chain issues, chip shortage, and HDZ trying to get as much product out as quickly as possible. They are on limited funding so my sense has been that they just want to get enough proof of concept out there in the wild so an established manufacturer can take the reigns and they can go back to focusing on developing the tech for a licensing fee rather than end-to-end manufacturing which was never the goal for them.

Here are the pre-production HDZero beta test goggles. The production version release date and shipping is stated to be October 2022.

Ryan Quellet Wrote:HDZero Goggles in beta testing! The fit and size are excellent (note: this is a pre-production 3d print). A lot lighter on my head than Sky04x + VRX. I'm not a fan of the fan guard design (pun intended) - maybe an alternative injection moldable design will be made. More to share later - what questions do you have? Test them out yourself at August 27th HDZero Team Race https://www.multigp.com/races/view/?race...-Team-Race

Currently no "official" beta test program
No features were canceled

Beta testing is just being done by a select few guys who work closely with Carl -> Ryan Quellet, Anthony Rivera, and a couple of others whose names escape me now.

Anyone tried the new whoop lite board and nano V2?
I need another whoop vtx by hdzero and a V2 camera but I think using a micro V2 versus a nano if possible or a old style vtx might be the way to go.
Craming all the micro V2 electronics inside a smaller case could result in more vibration or shock from rough landing to boards inside.
Also more space between boards does provide better cooling.
My V1 micros do seem to work better than V2 micros.
I think I'll wait it out until bugs or firmware is fully updated.

I've built 2 nearly identical 65mm whoops using the whoop lite set. And yes, it gets super cramped. Some opt to mount a lower profile 1S AIO FC (BetaFPV was it?) on the underside with the Whoop Lite up top. I oped to use nylon M2 screws allowing me to space out the PCBs. You can see more here: https://intofpv.com/t-i-wanna-make-a-1s-...#pid179114

All my other HDZero builds use the standard whoop VTX which has always performed for me. I can't say quite yet if these whoop lites perform the same way at this point.

As far as latency, evidently it did even better than the target 4ms showing 3ms in "the most exciting guy in the world" video here ...

That's super impressive and my hats off to Carl. Still, I don't mind my Shark Byte module setup so likely not hopping on this one.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, but my thoughts have changed a bit now. What I will probably do is use the goggles while flying the little guys around in my yard, but when I go to fly the LR stuff use the VRX as a ground station and give the HD0 goggles to my spotter. This way I can use the bigger antennas for LR and not have to carry the weight on my head.

I just received a whoop lite vtx but I only got the vtx and will use a Micro V2 camera with it.
I was very tempted to try the nano V2 but the frame I’m using requires a micro camera.
I tested vtx and a new micro v2 and nice video.
I don’t have it soldered up to flight controller yet.
