Re And people were complaining about the goggles being “green” …
But it is funny, when I fly, I look “down” and see something… and as I fly by.. I realize..”THATS ME”..
now it’s gonna be.. “THATS ME… and WOW.. do look like a geek or what!?!

$599.99 (goggles) + $29.99 (analog module bay) + $29.99 (shipping) = $659.97 USD = ~£562 GBP

Newb questions (previously I've only used a straight up analog box goggle... This seems like a good option but trying to make sure I understand it...)

Q1 - The goggle price is now lower but maths still makes sense - except if you don't have an actual analog module to go in the bay you also need to buy one (e.g. TBS Rapidfire Fusion is around USD130), right? So the total now is (USD) $495 + 29.99 + shipping + (separate purchase) 130 + shipping? + possibly various taxes as per SnowLeopardFPV's post.

Q2 - Can you get onboard quad mic audio in these goggles? I'm assuming that would depend on the analog module but I'm unclear if there is a module that supports it and whether the connection from module to goggle will carry the audio, and will output it to the headphone audio jack. (And yes I know lots of people don't like or want onboard audio).

Cheers

Currently adding audio requires parallel analog connection.
Here is a video of how it's done:

That's really helpful thanks.
My question didn't make it clear but I was actually referring to using the HDZero goggles as a fully analog system, so I'd be getting both the audio and the video from the analog module.

Anyway what the video shows is that (1) you can use audio from the analog receiver and (2) if you set up the "parallel" connection while using HDZero you can configure the goggles to take video from one (HDZero) and audio from the other (analog). Which is pretty neat.

So that answers that question, thanks! Next step would be for HDZero to offer options that include onboard audio in their VTX.

Yes, you will need an analogue module but depending on how much analogue you will be flying you don't really need to get a top of the range module like the ImmersionRC RapidFIRE or the TBS Fusion. Something like the $30 USD AKK diversity module mentioned in another recent post (HERE) will still be fine for most people's needs, especially if you are planning to transition to digital anyway and fly analogue quads less and less.

FWIW,
HDZero currently goggles are having problems with analog.
Rolling screens with every vrx except Fusion and it’s rolling if signal gets too weak.
Some racers who have Rapidfire are buying Fusion vrx so they can race using analog without screens rolling.
Rapidfire only works in one mode and it rolls if flown too far away.
Hopefully firmware will fix the rolling screen issue.
Carl says it’s compatible with all analog vrx but then discord HDZero users are recommending to get a Fusion at this time .

JB just got his HDZero goggles and hopefully he will test more analog modules before the presale ends and verify if there’s a problem with Rapidfire and other vrx.
There’s a few reviews where the pilot stated they tried Rapidfire but it being unstable they happened to have both RF and Fusion and using Fusion it solved their problem or made it much better.
Mad Tech is using Fusion and it does look very good.

I only see a couple of people reporting issues on Discord specifically with RapidFIRE modules but switching to mode 1 apparently solves the issue. RapidFIRE has always had intermittent issues when using mode 2. The people reporting the issue also don't say what RapidFIRE firmware version they are running. That matters because some firmware versions were plagued with problems.

The Skyzone SteadyView module also apparently has issues but that seems to have problems working properly on Skyzone's own goggles anyway so is probably to be expected.

I also saw one user saying that the URUAV RX5808 Evo module is working just fine and another user saying that the Eachine Pro58 is working too so the issue might be cofined to RapidFIRE and SteadyView modules only (and ones on certain firmware versions).

For reference, below are the only messages I can find on Discord (in chronological order) that are talking about analogue module compatibility with the HDZero goggles. I don't see any other complaints about issues with specific modules on either the HDZero Discord or Facebook groups. If anyone knows additional sources of the supposed complaints with analogue then please can they post links to the relevant information back here.

Alf Skaar (an FPV racer from Norway) is the only person I see who is hinting at possible issues with modules other than the TBS Fusion, but with no further information indicating exactly why or what.

Thanks, again that's super helpful and makes sense, those ones did sound a bit premium and yes I'd be looking to try out HDZero with future builds - though would still like a good analog outcome for my current micros.

But I keep thinking up dumb questions, again not being familiar with analogue modules - is it just assumed that they all receive and forward audio from the quad? For example on the AKK page via the link above I can't see any specific reference to it.

There is nothing special about the audio. As long as the camera and/or VTX on the quad has a microphone the audio signal just gets mixed (modulated) into the analogue RF signal along with the video signal and then demodulated at the other end by the VRX module. It's all standard analogue processing which is dealt with by the RichWave RTC6705 and RTC6715 chipsets that almost all 5.8GHz analogue VTX's and VRX's make use of.

HDZERO is moving right along.
I think they will get all the bugs out soon and there’s a pilot who has already sent his goggles to Germany to get Optik Fisher to fit lenses in the inserts.
Once the specs are taken of the goggles pilots will only need to email a prescription for lenses to be made.

For someone who generally promotes the DJI FPV ecosystem, JB's review below is a great endorsement for the HDZero Goggles. It seems ironic that even at full price these are still cheaper than the Walksnail Avatar and DJI Goggles 2 both which are completely locked into their own ecosystems with no ability to use them for any other system. Carl really has done a stellar job with these goggles by making them so versatile. All we need now is a DJI module and then we would only need one set of goggles to fly all of the analogue and HD systems Big Grin

So, tomorrow is the big day (if I remember correctly)…I checked my (pre) orders on the site.. nothing new. It would be nice to see where on the “list” we are.. one thing JB forgot to mention in his video is the repair / service centers HDZERO will have compared to the other manufactures.
