Despite the small savings, I'd still seriously consider building it yourself. The value will be in knowing exactly how the thing was put together. No matter how good the BNF, you will crash and you will have problems. You'll then be spending time reverse engineering how they put things together rather than knowing off the bat what was used where. I would focus on the 5" for now. It's the de facto FPV standard ... and you'll soon see why. Anything smaller will skew your perceptions which so far is a blank slate I'm assuming. So DJI digital is the way to go? I’m glad you mentioned that. I’ll stick to 5”. I appreciate the guidance. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 Personally, I think so. In a month or two we *might* (and that's a big *might*) see something released from Fat Shark but I highly doubt it will hold a candle to DJI. Many of us holding out are doing so partly in anticipation of Fat Shark's system so we don't have to ditch the expensive gear we already bought. • Posts: 1,845 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 Makes sense waiting since your invested with analog. The F7 FC is the way to go versus F4? • Posts: 761 Threads: 66 Likes Received: 352 in 254 posts Likes Given: 490 Joined: May 2019 Reputation: 12 Yep more uarts and faster processor so you can hang more stuff off your quad and do more filtering on it • Posts: 1,845 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 It’s done. I have a Marmotte DJI 5” on its way from Armattan. 10% discount for 24 hours on Armattan. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 Congrats! Make sure you save a copy of the receipt since they will ask for that if you file a warranty claim. You will be totally stoked on the frame. • Posts: 1,845 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 I’m looking forward to it and thanks again for the guidance. • Posts: 1,845 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 I’m going to order some silicone wire and a few other odds and ends for making leads for power supply, battery leads and charger adapter plugs. For XT60 and XT30 connectors what gauge wire will carry enough amps and fit in the connectors? • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 19-Aug-2020, 07:12 PM (This post was last modified: 19-Aug-2020, 07:13 PM by the.ronin.) 14 and 16 respectively Some will argue 12 instead of 14 but thats a thick wire. Search for a Bardwell video on the topic. • Posts: 1,845 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 I didn’t think to look what came on my LiPo packs. My Tattu packs with XT30 plugs uses #16 and my XT60 1800-2200 packs use #14. • Posts: 12,098 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 I agree 14 and 16 are enough. 12 is too thick. • Posts: 21,408 Threads: 595 Likes Received: 9,037 in 6,688 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 796 My Tattu 4S LiPos use 12AWG wire for their XT60 pigtails. I also use 12AWG wire for the XT60 pigtail that is soldered to my 5" quad. Maybe I don't need anything that thick but that is what I use so that the pigtail on my quad isn't the bottleneck, and I never had a single electrical related issue on that quad in two years. I will also be using a 12AWG pigtail on my new 6S build. I guess everyone you ask will have their own opinion • Posts: 1,845 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 I ordered 1 meter of 12,14 and 16 gauge in red and black. I’ve used all one color but I like watching red go to red when plugging connectors together. • Posts: 1,845 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 My Marmotte is on its way. I’m extremely impressed with the customer service and prices are extremely competitive if not better. They test fly BNF custom builds and tune them too. I do enjoy building but for 55.00 they build quad, then test fly and tune it,and free shipping too. I’m still trying to figure out what DJI combo to get for FPV.I also will have to get some corrective lenses in the reader type lenses. I must admit the radio system looks super super simple.I don’t need another transmitter but simplicity and reliability is something to strongly consider. • Posts: 20 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 18 in 7 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Apr 2020 Reputation: 3 Yeah, Armattan is good stuff. I just order some part from them last Thursday & received the order today (Monday). That's faster than ordering from the local guys here in the states! It's unbelievable how accurate they machine their frames, plus life time warranty & fast shipping - good job Armattan. Anything XT-60 should be 12 AWG - Battery leads, charging leads (especially parrallel boards), and most importantly power leads to your FC/PDB/AIO. |
