Community Firmware Coming for the DJI FPV System?
#16
If DJI could just sell the gear and let the community take over all the firmware development.

These new features will make people more reluctant to adopting the V3 Goggles and new airunits (if released).

Yes, this is going to be the dilemma for some people. Buy the shiny new locked down gear or stick with the older jailbroken gear that has the potential to gain some interesting features. Exactly like the Apple ecosystem.

Even if a new standalone Air Unit does get released to work the new V3 goggles, I wouldn't put it past DJI to make it a completely standalone video transmission system that only works with proprietary DJI gear (i.e. no communication with open source flight controllers and their firmware like with the current Air Units). DJI seem to have no real appetite to work with open source projects as they've already demonstrated and proven by distancing themselves from doing any further development and integration with Betaflight / INAV etc. for almost 2 years.

Absolutely V-22. I have a set of V1's. Do you have a link for the live audio streaming?

It would be hilarious if the V3's got hacked to add backwards compatability SnowLeopardFPV.

For anyone who hasn't seen Chris Rosser's interview with Joonas Trussmann, I recommend that you have a watch of it to see what goodies are planned for the DJI FPV System via the margerine root exploit. You can find the video and other discussion about it in the post linked to below...

Here is the new (currently beta) WTFOS dashboard for configuring and loading custom stuff onto rooted DJI FPV goggles in a safe way that will reduce the risk of bricking your goggles. As always with beta software, use at your own risk...

Below is the GitHub link to a new root exploit package from the FPV.WTF team for the DJI FPV System to increase the bitrate to 30Mbit in 25Mbit mode and to 59.9Mbit in 50Mbit mode Big Grin

Thanks for the link, it was a great interview, what do you do if you're struggling to keep up with the technology, I've only got a couple years to retirement, from my main job,  and after that I just wanna do a little side work with my drones, and be able to enjoy flying some of my fpv quads. I've barely had the time to figure out the USB out, and still don't have all the bugs worked out.  I have no idea about, or desire to dive into, root programing, or any of that.  Am I just allocated to paying for the proprietary latest and greatest if I wanna keep up with technology?

You can consider taking up wood working as a hobby Smile  Not much changes there and old school is always cool. Its what you can do with your hands Smile  And the other half will be happy if you make stuff that can be classified as "a quality of life upgrade" Smile

FPV is fast paced at times and many find it hard to keep up.

If you have a quad that flies great then leave it at whatever firmware/configuration it is. The only problem is the there are so many moving parts such as the RC link etc that get updated along the way and eventually everything needs updating.
