Beware of fake TBS Triumph antennas
#1
Image credit to Ben Cooper. He bought 3 TBS Triumph antennas from Aliexpress, 2 turned out to be fake. Please buy only from reputable vendors.

I don't want to encourage counterfeits, but it would be interesting to test the fake to the real ones as far as performance and reliability.

LOL, I was thinking both of those thoughts as I was browsing the pictures!  I have often wondered how much product being "direct shipped" from the country of manufacture is actually made on the mythical Fourth Shift?

Is AliExpress going to stand by the sale?

So, is the term counterfeit synonymous with clone?  Or is counterfeit used for retailers/manufacturers that are more nefarious?

Generally I'm not anti-clone in the world market at large.  But since the UAV market is so small and development time and costs are high, I'm pretty anti-clone in the our market.  General Electric or Ford Motor Company, as examples, can endure market loss to aftermarket/cloning much more so than our hobby.

I think counterfeit means it pupports to be the actual product of the item "cloned". In this case down to the TBS branding.

Counterfeit usually applies to a product which is trying to pass itself off as an original item and is made to look near enough identical to the original manufacturers one including original manufacturer trade marks and logos etc. Examples are the above TBS antennas and things like knock-off Rolex watches.

Clone generally means "look-a-like" or very similar to another manufacturer product but often with a different name and without the original manufacturer logos etc. on but which isn't trying to pass itself off as the original item. It is just based very closely on the same design. Examples are the Realacc Martian II frame (very similar to the ImpulseRC Alien but not identical and with a different name) and things like aftermarket "pattern" automobile parts that are a direct replacement for OEM parts but which are made by another company.

Hello all,

A bit confused regarding the font to judge for a clone.

My Diamond and Immortal V2 appear to use the same font shown on the clone. The immortal V2 came with my crossfire tx lite.

Same clone font shown on the TBS website.

Thanks for the help.

You probably don't need to worry. Especially if it came with your purchase of Crossfire. I haven't heard anyone cloning the immortal T or Diamond yet.
