Betaflight 4.3.0 Release Candidate 7 Now Available
#91
Star
I'm not sure which gyros I've got, but on 2 quads now that I flashed to 4.3 RC6, I started getting a lot of "yaw twitching" both becoming un-flyable after having been previously flyable.  At first I thought I had a gyro or motor problem, but flashing back to 4.2.11 seems to have fixed things.  I had set the 3" aside a few weeks ago planning to rebuild, but when I realized the reversion to 4.2 fixed the 7", I figured it was worth a try on the little guy too.  Fixed.

One rig is my wanna-be LR 7" with the Fireworks Omnibus F4, the other is a 3" with a Zeus F4 AIO...both old hardware, but working. Smile

I like 4.3 and will try again with the next RC or full release.

Yeah I wont either bother with 4.3 until full release. I rather know that my quad will fly without issues than having a little bit better performance.
Where i fly a problem with the quad could mean a total loss so not worth it.

Flying anytime/anywhere is all about how much risk you’re willing to accept.

I fully understand and appreciate the choice to not fly something that is known to not be stable. If it doesn’t fit your risk tolerance and flying area, I’m glad you’ve chosen to wait.

But man, once they finally release a stable 4.3 version, I think it’s gonna blow your mind. I love it.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

Yeah, i am looking forward to the full release! So many good improvements and futures. Unfortunately where i live there are not that many good flying spots where i can fly undisturbed so i have to choose places where ppl wont go like swampy areas or over water.

Betaflight 4.3.0 RC7 and Betaflight Configurator 10.8.0 RC7 was released a few hours ago. Details have been added to the first post of this thread.

One important thing to note is that the ICM-20689 gyro damage issue that was present in the RC6 releases has been fixed in this RC7 release.

Improvements Fixes

One of the Betaflight devs released a video recently discussing the changes in Betaflight 4.3 and why it's taking so long. Limon (Ivan) makes some very entertaining videos, so it's definitely worth checking out and subscribing to his channel!

This was featured on JB and Blunty's FPV news livestream yesterday. They also had a mini rant right at the end of the stream about some of the Betaflight devs coding in new features when a versioned release is already at the RC stage.

Looks like they included the gyro fix, so hooray for that!

I have some doubts about a properly stable release being released in 7 days.
Dangerous operations.

Question is whether it actually un-bricks the already affected gyros. Too early to say I assume.

The gyro bug fix in Betaflight 4.3.0 RC7 only prevents more ICM-20689 gyros from getting bricked. It doesn't unbrick already bricked gyros. There is no known fix for that as of yet. Steve Evans is still in discussion with TDK about possible options for being able to do that, but there is nothing available to do that at the moment.

An interesting tidbit I picked up from Limon's video is that they're still not sure what was causing the gyros to brick and think it's possible there was a batch of faulty gyros that went out and that the bricking had nothing to do with Betaflight. Either way, it's encouraging that TDK is actively working with the BF devs to figure this out.

TDK recommends the ICM42688 for new designs, and testing on the BF Discord shows it performs extremely well with almost no noise below 170Hz. Looks like it will be a great replacement for the EOL MPU6000.
