Beginner Builds an Airblade Eclair 2.5"...
#16
Could do Lumenier stuff:
https://www.getfpv.com/lumenier-f4-aio-f...oller.html#
https://www.getfpv.com/lumenier-mini-blh...dshot.html

Don't love that the ESC is connectorized though. Hrm. Any other ideas for 20x20 4in1 ESCs?

Thanks

Or maybe this AIO that's really all in one:
HGLRC F4 Zeus AIO Flight Controller & BLHeliS 15A ESC
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthre...All-in-one

I wonder if 15A ESCs is enough for my motors. Seems like it should be based on a few other 2-3" builds that are using this. One con, however, is that it is 3S max.

I think all that's left is the FC stack. The HGLRC F428 is out of stock everywhere it seems. I'll keep hunting.

The F428 might be superseded at this point as they have 35 and 40 amp versions available based on the V2 F4 FC.  You can purchase the parts individually and put it together.  Purchase whatever 20x20 HGLRC ESC board is available as they are all designed to fit together.  You can use TPA in BetaFlight to relax the issues from over-amping your aircraft.

The ESC's current rating is simply its capacity to supply current to the motors, right? If i knew what what my motor's max current draw would be with its props, it'd make sizing much easier.

F428, F438, F440 are just the ESC's capacities (28a, 38a, 40a) so you can size them for your needs, right? It's generally not an issue to oversize things, its just not necessary.

The fact that Airblade builds their Eclair 2.5" with a F428 implies it needs that much capacity though i guess so maybe a 15A is too small.

Then again, a 75C 450mah battery can only supply 33.75a. Divide that by four motors and you're talking less than 8.5A each...

Ok, went with the F428. It's oversized for this, but future proof is a good thing. I also got a set of Gemfan Flash 2540 2.5" props to try out. So i'll have the option of 2, 3, or 4 blade setups. Ordered a little buzzer too as i could see myself losing this little guy knowing my (lack of) skills.

The full parts list:

FRAME: Airblade Eclair 2.5"
MOTORS: Airblade 1105 7500kv
FC/ESC: HGLRC F428 stack
BATTERIES: Tattu 3S 450mah
PROPS: RotorX RX2535 (2 or 4 blade) and Gemfan Flash 2540 (3 blade)
RX: FrSky XM+
CAM: Runcam Swift Micro 2 (2.1MM)
VTX: Eachine VTX03
MISC: XT30s, wire, buzzer, balance board for charger, battery strap

I think that's all i need...

You will have a solid build with your selected parts. Tested the GemFan props and wrote a comparative review. They are good props, a little less aggressive with great efficiency. Your list looks pretty complete, so should be able to build, bind and fly without too much trouble Big Grin

Great, thanks for your help!

I think all my parts should be here this week so hopefully I can build this up on Saturday.

The frame arrived today along with some other parts. It's smaller than i expected for some reason. I see why these are micro quads. :-D

It is listed as a 130mm frame, about the same size at The Bug. Small, yes...but you will love it!

Man, i just noticed i got the wrong batteries. I got Tattu 450mah 45C with JST connectors. It was the only version getfpv.com had so i guess i just clicked buy without looking closer.

Its easy enough to swap connectors, but i really need the 75Cs, eh? Ugh!

45 x .450 is still 20A.. that should be enough for this thing. Maybe its ok? hrm

edit: ordered the right ones from RDQ and they should be here Friday. I'll try to return these to getFPV, but if not, its on me so fair enough.

GetFPV will RMA the batteries. Nice! I ordered proper ones and they'll be here Friday.

My motors (Airblade AB1105 7500kv) and props (RX2535) came today. I put the motors on the frame using purple locktite.

These props can be two or four blade. I noticed that in four blade config, i can't get teh screws through the holes. I really have to screw them in and it drives the two plastic prop pieces apart a bit. Doesn't feel right. I noticed that the props press fit quite tightly on the shaft. I do need to screw these down, right?

Also, everything is SO small!

I really love the 7500kv 1105 motors.  The only possible issue that I have found, they can feel really hot.  So far though, I have not had any problems because of it.  Also, I would guess your weight with battery will be below 160 grams.  The power to weight will likely be pretty impressive in terms of performance.  It should also be a lot of fun with the lightweight 3S 75C packs!

Looking forward to reading your progress and hopefully there will be some pictures soon Smile

Heat isn't great for the magnets in the motors. NdFeB magnets are particularly sensitive to temperature, the hotter they get, the more the magnetic field deteriorates, meaning less torque. At over 80C/176F rare earth magnets will begin to lose magnetic strength permanently. There are high heat tolerant rare earth magnets which have 'SH' following the number (ie. N42SH) but they are not as strong at normal temperatures as the N52 compound we see most commonly in our motors.

If your motors do get a bit hot, it is a good idea to let them properly cool, before putting in the next pack. This also makes me think that it's probably better not to finish the last few volts your pack with high power moves, rather stay cool and let your motors and batteries relax a bit before landing.
