antenna placement - forward/backward video quality
#1
Question
antenna placement in the back gave me allways a worse videolink backward compared to forward.
there is no other possibility? Undecided would even like less video range but changed to better vid quality while returning. place the antenna in the front might be to much lowered level Undecided in the middle of the quad?
seems i would like diversity, but that seems doesnt work at videolink ? Undecided

i believe trust in rescue mode shouldnt be my general strategy for that xD
how do you manage that?

Hi Bat,

I mount the VTX antenna in the rear and generally high. Here is a picture of my Katana-LR4 which shows my typical antenna mounting. By mounting the antenna high, it clears the entire quad both regardless of quad orientation to the "home" location. I have also standardized on the VAS Minion Pro as my "go to" VTX antenna. I get the best video with this setup.

Notice that I also mount the R9MM receiver antenna in a vertical orientation and as high as feasible.

Also, both antennas have rearward "bend" which puts both at a near vertical orientation when in flight.

i know its the best overall mounting, but isnt the feed worse when coming back?
"By mounting the antenna high, it clears the entire quad both regardless of quad orientation to the "home" location"

so i might just need longer antennas than?

Hi Bat,

Nope. I get good reception going and coming. The antenna is high enough that it clears the quad regardless of flight direction nor distance...so far. To qualify that, I have not been out to long range since I don't have a good place to fly.
What I will say is that raising the antenna has made a difference for the better.

Now, I can't say about those acro stunts because I generally don't do them...that is reserved for my 2.5 inch park fliers.

Yeah Huggy, mount at the back and have longer antennas.  You could mount in the front, but the antenna would have to be even longer when going away from you.
