Yes, wait for the right conditions. Hi kafie, Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. You always want the most favorable conditions when collecting this type of data. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they flew it in a huge "Blue" or "Green" room and then merged this with a video of a good background. Slight of "eye", you know, like they do for the weather and other video "stunts". What you see isn't necessarily what you get. Anyway, according to V-22's work with eCalc, it is actually quite possible, but YES, still a challenge. • Posts: 140 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 157 in 76 posts Likes Given: 91 Joined: Mar 2021 Reputation: 3 24-Apr-2021, 06:50 PM I'd like to put out a request to anyone that has built the NanoLongRange with an AIO board other than the HGLRC Zeus F411. I'm trying to figure out roughly how much current draw the WiFi is adding to this board. I have a feeling this is hindering my flight time. If anyone has a different board and the ability to do a few current draw measurements, I'd love to see the results! Here are my results with the HGLRC Zeus board (total current draw with the VTX at different power levels): I simply powered the quad with a multimeter in series to read total current draw without motors running. Power supply: 4.15V GPS was disconnected VTX @ pitmode = 685 mA VTX @ 25 mW = 800 mA VTX @ 100 mW = 850 mA VTX @ 350 mW = 985 mA VTX @ 500 mW = 1050 mA Plugging in the GPS added approx. 100 mA So that means my total accessory load on long distance flights with GPS connected and VTX @ max power is 1150 mA. I'm actually surprised how high this is, but I guess when you consider it's with a supply voltage of 4.15V it makes sense. • Posts: 1,506 Threads: 49 Likes Received: 714 in 525 posts Likes Given: 478 Joined: Oct 2020 Reputation: 93 I found this in the manual: Quote:1.UART1 uses WIFI Open WIFI CLI command: ‘’resource PINIO 1 B10 serial 0 1 115200 57600 0 115200 set pinio_config = 129,1,1,1 set pinio_box = 0,255,255,255 save‘’ That means you should be able to power off the WiFi by setting that pinio low, or set it up so you can control it with an aux switch on USER1. It would be interesting to test power consumption with it on and off! Let me know if you need help setting it up. • Posts: 140 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 157 in 76 posts Likes Given: 91 Joined: Mar 2021 Reputation: 3 (24-Apr-2021, 07:54 PM)V-22 Wrote: I found this in the manual: That means you should be able to power off the WiFi by setting that pinio low, or set it up so you can control it with an aux switch on USER1. After some googling I'm assuming you're talking about the new Recon manual? So, I had to do a bit of research to figure out how the commands work and I'm still not sure. Can you tell me how to just permanently turn that PIN LOW? I've managed to figure out that those lines in the manual should actually turn OFF the WiFi when ARMED, so that's good, but I'd like to know how to just turn it OFF, so I can do the current draw tests. Also, I just realized that because I flashed BF 4.3 to my board, I lost the default WiFi config and I just confirmed that mine has NOT been turning OFF when the quad is armed! That couldn't have been helping. Really looking forward to turning this OFF and doing some tests! Thanks V-22! • Posts: 1,506 Threads: 49 Likes Received: 714 in 525 posts Likes Given: 478 Joined: Oct 2020 Reputation: 93 I found that in the manual for the FC. I also found a reference to it in this new Rekon3 manual: 20210414055754Rekon31SManualV1.020210412.pdf (banggood.com) Thanks, I've been reading through that Github reference and trying to figure out how to just set the pin LOW, but haven't figured it out yet. Still working on it and testing. • Posts: 140 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 157 in 76 posts Likes Given: 91 Joined: Mar 2021 Reputation: 3 Ok, so in the end I just put the WiFi control on a transmitter switch. These CLI commands set PINIO 1 to USER1 set pinio_config = 1,1,1,1 set pinio_box = 40,255,255,255 The final verdict is not that exciting... the actual current draw difference between WiFi ON vs. OFF is only 10 mA. But, at least now I won't be flying a WiFi hotspot around and it might help speed up the GPS lock. Thanks again V-22 for putting me on the right track! Posts: 140 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 157 in 76 posts Likes Given: 91 Joined: Mar 2021 Reputation: 3 I'm pretty stoked, I finally pushed this little nano to a full 10 km flight! As a bonus it was also 5 km out and back. I had a window of opportunity with good conditions - about 12 deg C and 5km/h winds on the return trip - so I jumped on it. Video held up fairly well too. I just have to edit the video and upload it later today. Wondering if I should just post the whole flight and let people fast forward if they want to or should I post an "accelerated time" version? I certainly wouldn't want to watch a boring slow flight for 16 min, but you can always fast forward right? Any suggestions/preferences? Posts: 164 Threads: 10 Likes Received: 95 in 71 posts Likes Given: 172 Joined: Dec 2020 Reputation: 4 I would like to see the entire 16 minute flight. 16 minute is not too bad, I mean its about half a Joshua Bardwell video.... I had nice conditions a couple days ago so I tried doing large slow loops around a park with the VTX on min power and it was my longest flight ever, but I was still only able to squeeze 22:29 out of it. I kept it flying down to 2.2 V! So I think I'm going to throw in the towel on the 30 min challenge with this rig and move on to my next build. I'm going to steal the GPS for my next build, but even with that 6g weight loss, I can't imagine getting another 8 min. • Posts: 140 Threads: 6 Likes Received: 157 in 76 posts Likes Given: 91 Joined: Mar 2021 Reputation: 3 29-Apr-2021, 01:27 PM Hi all, Successful 10km flight (5 km out and back)! Warning... long boring video... if you want to skip to the turnaround point, the timestamp is in the description. BTW, the reason for the low LQ and video breakup around the 5:50 mark, is because the wind turbine towers are directly in my LOS. I happens predictably every time I follow that flight path. I avoid it on the return trip. Have you gotten a thirty minute "airborne" time yet? No sir. I made some comments about that, just above the 10k video. The best I can squeeze out of it is +22min. I know Ecalc says it's possible, but it just can't get it there. Maybe if I dropped the GPS and found a way to save a few more grams, I could do it, but then it wouldn't be the same craft. I think I'm going to start stripping some of the long range parts off this one for my 2S build and just keep this for a fun flyer. |
